The Problem of the snakes和Using Language

SAMPLE Retrieved from https://www.bbc.com/news/business-43478158 (20 March 2018) Toyota has suspended US tests of driverless cars on public roads following a fatal accident in Arizona involving one of Uber Technologies’ self-driving vehicles. Toyota said it was concerned about the "emotional effect" the incident might have on its test drivers. The car-maker said it did not have a timeline for re-starting the trials. The Arizona accident
has revived debate about whether autonomous vehicles are being put into use prematurely. Analysts say the technology has the potential to reduce accidents and expand transportation options for the disabled and elderly, but some have warned that the technology is not ready and urged regulators to introduce more stringent safety tests. "Hopefully Congress will take note and stop rushing to deploy this immature technology," Missy Cummings, a professor of engineering at Duke University
wrote on Twitter
after the accident in Arizona. A survey last year by Pew Research Center
found that more than half of Americans would not want to ride in a driverless car if given the option and expressed some level of worry about such vehicles.
The accident in Tempe, Arizona on Sunday is believed to be the first fatality involving a fully autonomous vehicle. Police and federal officials are investigating the details of the incident, in which
a 49-year-old woman was killed by an Uber car operating in autonomous mode. A human monitor was also behind the wheel. On Tuesday, Tempe police said they had reviewed video of the crash and repeated that fault had not been determined. Uber said after the accident that it would temporarily halt driverless car tests. Toyota has also been performing trials of its Chauffeur mode on public roads in Michigan and California. The firm previously said it expected some of its cars to be equipped with automated driving technology by 2020. "Because we feel the incident may have an emotional effect on our test drivers, we have decided to temporarily pause our Chauffeur mode testing on public roads," a spokesman said. He said the firm is continuing its tests of driverless cars in other countries.

A: Hello. This is Tina, a journalist of the Student Post. Can I speak to Mr. Li, please? B: Speaking. What can I do for you? A: Do you think you would be available to have a phone interview now? I am very
interested in the NASTIC Invention Contest carried out last week. B: Yeah, go ahead. I am happy to give you any information you need. What do you
want to know? A: First, I just wonder what is the name of your invention? And when have you had
such an idea to invent it? B: It is a mobile fridge, actually. And I would call it “Isobar”. A: While, sorry to interrupt you, I can’t catch you, please slow down a little bit. And
your invention is “Isobar”? I-S-O-B-A-R? B: Yep, you’re right. A: Ok, thank you. So as for the time when you had such an idea... B: well, when I was 13 years old, I had a chance to visit Cambodia and parts of southeast Asia together with my father and mother. I’d witnessed the poverty and conflict there. And these trips interest me very much, so it pushed me to solve this major issue. Then I surfed the internet and found that the vaccine is the point.
A:
Vaccine? Why you focused on vaccine other than the other factors? B: You know, people’s lives can be largely saved by injecting some vaccine if there are diseases. A:
Yes. It is a good way to prevent the disease from spreading to the other parts of the world. How you invented this “Isobar”? B: Firstly, I sorted out the problems that I observed; and then, I searched the internet, visited the library, and analyzed all the factors; and thus, I got the point-vaccine. A: So after that, how about it was carried out? B: I did several tests and conducted lots of experiments. I failed again and again. Well, my tutor had given me lots of ideas and he encouraged me to stick to it. So I am pretty much thankful to my tutor. A: Have you ever come across any difficulties? B: Definitely. I met several hardships during the time. However, whenever I got stuck, I would listen to my favorite songs and chat with my friends.
A: Wonderful. Now everything is worthwhile. You did a good job to our human
being. Thank you, Mr. Li. I am afraid that I shall have to ring off now. Thank you
very much for all the information you’ve given me. Goodbye. B: You are welcome. Goodbye.
