“Don’t touch the machines, please!”

I.Today I’m going to talk about Unit1 of Module1 New Standard English, Book8. This unit includes three parts: Listen, point and find, Listen and say, Practise. In section 1, it mainly deals with the dialogue about “Don’t touch the machines, please!” And in section 2 and 3, it provides a real situation for the Ss to practise the pattern: Don’t……,please! And other imperative sentences. II. Teaching aims 1. Aims on the knowledge To enable the Ss to understand the general idea of the dialogue, Make sure that Ss can use the main sentences in a simple way. 2. Aims on the abilities (1) To develop Ss’ abilities of listening reading and speaking. (2) To train the Ss’ ability of understanding and working in groups (3) To foster Ss’ abilities of communication and their innovation.

III. Key-points of this lesson (1) To help Ss understand the dialogue and read it fluently (2) To enable Ss to study in groups and co-operate skillfully. IV. Difficult points (1) The understanding of the dialogue (2) The usage of “Don’t……”

V. Teaching methods As we all know: the main instructional aims of learning English in primary school is to cultivate pupils’ basic abilities of listening and speaking and their good sense of the English language. So in this lesson

I’ll mainly use “Task-based” teaching method. That is to say, I will let the Ss learn in real situations, finish a task by making a survey to help the Ss to get a better understanding of the key structure of the dialogue. I will arrange four kinds of activities: TPR, guessing game, finishing a survey and having a competition. And in this lesson a recorder, CAI, school things will be needed. Students should prepare some school things. VI. Teaching procedures and purposes of my designing. I’ll finish this lesson in five steps.

Step 1. Warm-up and preview TPR: sing a song , wash your hands, wear the hat, wear the glasses,etc. 2.

Free talk between T and Ss about crisps.

Purpose: It is important to form a better English learning surrounding for the Ss. It provides situations to review learned knowledge for the next step. Step 2. Presentation Show the Ss a bag of crisps, introduce”potato” Do you want to know how to make crisps? Show the picture of a factory: introduce “machine” These machines are very dangerous, Let’s listen what we can do and can’t do? Play the cassette and present the main sentences: Don’t touch the machines, please! Wear these glasses, please! Don’t touch anything!

Listen again and answer the questions: How many steps to make the crisps? Wash the potatoes Cut the potatoes Put the crisps in the bags Make use of the pictures of page3, and discuss in groups and make a short dialogue with the sentence pattern. Purpose: To present the key structures one by one is much easier for the Ss to learn and grasp the meanings. Proper competition can arouse the Ss’ interest in English learning.

Listen and find “don’t” (Activity book) 5.Play the cassette. Let the Ss listen and imitate the dialogue. Pay attention to their pronunciation and intonation. Purpose: Task-based teaching method is used here to develop Ss’

listening skill. Step 3. Practice Show pictures and sentences, divide Ss into groups and ask them to match Discuss in groups: what we can do and can’t do(classroom library ) Purpose: Task-based teaching method is used here to develop Ss’ ability communication and also their ability of co-operation will be well trained. Step 4. Summary

Help Ss summarize what they have learned today. by doing this, it can cultivate their learning skill. Step 5. Homework Listen and retell the dialogue Make some classroom rules. Purpose: Revision is so important that Ss should speak English as much as they can in class or after class. It is necessary for the Ss to do some extensive exercises after class to consolidate the knowledge they learned. So much for my presentation, thank you !
