Situation simulation

首先教师可以为学生创设这样的情境：假如你是三明治伯爵，请你简要讲述三明治这个名称的来历。其次，假设你是一个电视机设计师，请你介绍一下电视机的发展历史。

教学流程

Step 1. Revision 1. The teacher shows the pictures of the animals and gets students to say their names in English. 2. Say to students:Can you tell me something amazing about these animals? The teacher can give them some hints if necessary. (1) What do snakes do in winter? (2)What can camels do? (3)What do you know about giraffes? (4)Can animals smell well? Step 2. Presentation 1. Tell students: Simon collected some information about amazing things. Let's have a look 2. Show them the picture of a piece of sandwich and some related information. Ask them some questions below. Teach some new words at the same time. (1)Do you like eating sandwiches? (2) Where did "sandwich" get its name from?

(It got its name from a man called John Montagu, the Fourth Earl of Sandwich. ) (3) What did the man love doing? (He loved playing cards. ) (4) How did he make a sandwich? (He put meat between two pieces of bread. ) 3. Show the picture of a TV and some related information, then ask students some questions and learn some new words at the same time. (1)Does your family have a TV? (2)When and where was the first TV show? (It was in the UK in 1926. ) (3) How many TVs were in use per 100 Chinese families in 1987? (About 29. ) (4) How big can TVs be now? (They can be as large as 152 inches. ) While the students are answering the questions, the teacher reminds them of some useful words and expressions and gets them to use the information freely by creating the situation.

Step 3. Listening.reading and discussing 1. Read the article in Part B together after the tape, 2. Invite four of them to read the article paragraph by paragraph. 3. Get students to discuss the structure of the article in pairs. Paragraph 1: introduction Paragraph 2: give the theme paragraph 3: facts about sandwiches paragraph 4: feeling 4. Read Part B again. Underline some good sentences. e. g. We live in a wonderful world with a lot of things. Sandwich got its name from a man called... Later the food became popular all over the world. Step 4. Practice Say to students:Suppose you were the Fourth Earl of Sandwich,try to tell us your story. Step 5. Writing 1. Say to students: Now we'll write about amazing things.You've already collected some facts. Would anyone like to share your amazing things with us? Get some students to tell their facts about amazing things in class. 2. Work in groups of four to talk about their own facts,trying to list their information like the notes in Part A. 3. Write an article according to the discussion and their information. Tell some less able students they can use some useful expressions about TVs in Part A. 4. Invite some excellent students to show their articles in class. Step 6. Homework 1. Complete and modify your compositions. 2. Finish off some related exercises in the workbook 3.
