A lesson plan for Learning About the Language Past participle used as adverbial I Introduction The students have studied some usages of the past participle, and they are aware that past participle can be used as attribute, predicative and subject or object compliment . In this period the students will have the chance to learn how to use past participle as adverbials. II Objectives To help the students know what kind of adverbials past participle can be used as. To help the students understand Obsolute Structure III key and difficult points It is difficult for the students to tell whether they should use a Past participle or a present participle as an adverbial. In other words , they are not sure what is the logical subject of the past participle. IV Procedures 1.

Go over past participle used as an attribute, a predicative and an object compliment. a.

We need another copy of the agreed agreement. b.

He seemed disappointed by the failure of his patent. c.

She tried to make herself understood while giving her talk. 2.

Ask the students to find the sentences in which past participles are used as adverbials. 3.

Group the students to discuss what kind of adverbials the past participles in the related sentences are used as and ask the students to pay attention to their position . 4.

Give more example sentences containing past participle used as adverbials to deepen the students’ understanding.

Analysize with the students what is the logical subject of the past participle . 6.

Ask the students to do the exercise 2 and 3 on page 33 first , and then check the answers to them. 7.

Get feedback and find the problems the students are faced with. 8.

Do the related exercises about past participle in the workbook.
