I. 教学内容分析

本模块以A Lesson in a Lab为话题，通过模块学习，使学生了解一些基本的科学实验知识，学会怎样写实验报告，并掌握一些相关的词汇与短语，激发学生对科学的兴趣。通过阅读了解国外有关科学教学的情况，扩大学生的知识面，并能就所学的内容谈论并掌握如何完成一份实验报告。

Reading and Vocabulary

由两篇实验报告短文组成，

Passage B介绍了A simple Scientific Experiment，要求学生学会如何描述或写一个科学实验报告。拓展文要求学生通过学习并实践操作，帮助学生熟悉课文内容和学会“学以致用”及培养观察能力。

II. 教学重点和难点

学会在英语环境中按要求完成实验及表述实验步骤。

理解有关科学实验的文章，识别本模块的生词和词语并理解所在句子的含义

III. 教学步骤

Period 3 Reading and Writing Passage B + Extended Reading Teaching Goals: 1. Help Ss master some words and phrases; 2. Help Ss master how to conclude from a passage of an experiment and finish it; 3. Help Ss to write and talk something about science experiments.

Communicative Approach Teaching Procedures: Step 1 Warming up Show Ss some pictures of metal, and then ask them what they are and what they can be used for.

Step 2 Pre-reading Show Ss some pictures related to a simple scientific experiment, and then ask them what they are.

Purpose: Help Ss get to know some vocabulary and knowledge about experiment.

Step 3 Detail reading (1)

Ask the students to read passage B carefully and work in pairs to fill in the blanks on page 45

【Words explanation】

1. react: When we use metals, it is important to know how they react with different substances…

react在本句中的意思是“（化学）反应”。

react with sth表示“与……起化学反应”。

eg: Iron reacts with water and air to product rust. 2. conclusion: New evidence might lead to the conclusion that we are wrong.

conclusion表示“（试验等的）结论”的意思。可用

in conclusion 表示“最后”

come to the conclusion, reach the conclusion表示“得出结论”。

eg: It’s very difficult to reach the conclusion because we don’t know that plan.

When we do an experiment, we should first of all have an aim. We should use proper methods. We should find out the result and get a conclusion.

Pair work to do conclusions about the experiment according to their own thoughts.

Purpose: Help Ss output their own opinions about experiment.

Step 4 Post-reading Discussion:

1.What is the important part to a scientific experiment?

The may-be answer is “method”, because if people do the experiment not carefully enough, they’ll not get the correct result,….

2.What is the feature of the words describing in the method?

The may-be answer is scientific, logic, orderly, start with verb, clear, well-organised, instructive,….

Purpose: Help Ss deepen the understanding of the feature of the words used in experiment.

Step 5 Extended reading

Fast Reading with allocated tasks and limited the time. 1. Pre-reading

A. Divide all the students into 66 . B. Be ready for the group task.

Purpose: Do the preparation for the Experiment Requirements. 2. Reading

(1) Read an interesting scientific experiment in 5 minutes.

T: If you have difficulty in understanding the passage, please ask at any time. (2) Find the instructive method, and speak them out.

Underline the instructive method, and speak them out.

(3) Do the experiment in 4 minutes and record it by phone.

(4) Show the best record to the class.

(5) Make conclusions to the experiment and reviews to the method by 1/2 students. Purpose: Using the ability of reading, watching and speaking to conclude the methods of the experiment “How to Make a Match Rocket”, and finish this experiment on their own in groups.

3. Post-reading

Watch a video of a simple scientific experiment.

Have a try to write the instructive method by yourself in English.

Purpose : Check whether the Ss have mastered what they have learnt in class, and output the experiment report individually.

Homework: Write a complete scientific experiment report in simple English in notebook.
