2. Analysis of teaching materials

In this period, students are required to read the whole text and then finish four task-based questions. (1) Discuss and answer the three questions

(2) Discuss some extinct animals and which one you think should be brought back to life and the reasons. (3)Through listening and speaking, students be able to infer the writer’s opinion according to what they have heard.

3. Analysis of the students Reading is a difficult part in high school learning, students often find no clue in how to choose the correct one when dealing with the exercises. In our daily study, students should try their best to enlarge their vocabulary and know some basic methods to analyze the sentence structure. On the other hand, students should also improve their understanding of the text by reading some valuable and interesting articles. The improvement of reading ability is a steady process during which students must have a strong determination.

Teaching Procedures:

Step I

Lead-in Good morning, boys and girls. Last class we have talked about clone, we all know it is not a dream. Now everyone, if I give you a chance to clone, what will you restore then? Today we are going to learn another passage about cloning, from which we will know whether we can bring dinosaurs back to life.

Step II Reading

Skimming: Ask the students to turn to P15 and go through the passage fast to find some facts of

cloning. Careful reading: Now read the passage carefully and try to answer the questions in Ex1, when you have finished, I’ ll check your answers in class. Unfortunately, with what we know now, this is either impossible or unsuitable.

5.All efforts of cloning an animal will be in vain if there is not enough diversity in the group to overcome illness. Diversity in a group means having animals with their genes arranged in different ways. The disadvantage is that if there is a new illness some of these animals may die out, but others will survive and pass on the ability to resist that disease to the next generation.

The translation of the above sentences will be done within the group and some students will be asked to stand up to give their correct answers.

Teaching reflection:

In this class, students learnt how to express the acceptance and refusal and how to express their opinions by using some functional expressions. The analysis of long and difficult sentences should be a long and difficult task during the teaching process. This problem can be solved by grammar learning, words expansion and the usage of useful structure.
