Ⅰ Teaching Objectives: 1. learn some useful words and expressions and information about cloning by listening and speaking. 2.

practice expressing agreement and disagreement and presenting one’s point of view.

3.

enable the students to learn by discussing with others and thinking independently and critically. 4.

make the students understand the importance of teamwork. Ⅱ Analysis of Teaching Materials and the Students This is the second unit of Module 8, focusing on cloning .Cloning is briefly introduced in the first text of this unit, which also leaves a question “where is it leading us “for students to think about. Whether the dinosaurs will be returned is discussed in the second text. After learning the two articles, the students have got basic information about cloning and developed interest in it, which pave the way for their debate. In the listening part, two friends are discussing whether cloning is cruel to animals or not. The students can form their own opinion by thinking about others’ critically and also learn how to express positive and negative point of view from their discussion, which is also very helpful for their debate. In the speaking part, the students are encouraged to debate with others about whether cloning has more advantages and disadvantages, using the expressions and arguments they have learned in this unit. The students in Class 3 are science students, who are interested in development of science. However, they don’t have much time to practice their oral English. This unit offers a good chance for them to combine their interest in science and English. They cannot only explore more information of cloning, but also show their talent in English in the debate. Ⅲ

Step 1 Leading in: 1.

Why can’t Dolly find her Mom? [设计意图]母亲节刚刚过去，通过与学生聊母亲节和多利羊找妈妈的故事引出关于克隆的问题，起到热身并引起学生兴趣的作用。

Step 2 listening(page 17) ⑴ Listen to the conversation between Xiao Qing and Rachel and get their different points of view about cloning. ⑵

Listen to the conversation again and get the arguments to support their view. ⑶

Listen to the conversation the last time to find expressions of positive and negative point of view. [设计意图]此环节为本课的一个重要部分“听”，培养学生听大意和细节的能力，同时让学生在“听”中，学会如何陈述观点，表达支持和反对观点的常用语，为后面的辩论做准备。

Step 3 Discussion. ⑴

Teach the students some expressions of presenting points of view, listing arguments and drawing a conclusion. ⑵

Divide them into two groups to discuss and make preparations for the debate.

[设计意图]为辩论准备语言素材，通过分组讨论让学生分享让他们课前搜寻的与克隆有关的信息，培养学生团队合作、沟通及协调能力，同时鼓励学生从多角度分析问题，形成观点。

Step 4 Debate ⑴The leading debaters from the two groups present the point of view. ⑵.Other students can take turns to speak in a free debate. [设计意图] 此环节为本课的一个最重要的部分“说”要求学生既能熟练的应用在“听”中掌握的表达支持和反对观点的常用语来组织自己的语言，又要熟悉与克隆相关的单词，进行语言输出。

Step 5 Summary ⑴

Show a video about the development of cloning.

Make comments on their performance. [设计意图] 对学生的表现进行反馈，同时进行思想情感教育，结合克隆这一话题，鼓励学生无论是进行科学研究还是语言学习都应该不断改进完善，进行自我突破，,努力会获得回报。

Step 6 Homework Write a report about the debate. [设计意图] 由“说”到“写”，进一步培养学生的语言输出能力。
