We laughed a lot This is Unit 1, Module 9,
Book 10 of New Standard English. The main topic is to talk about things that happened in the past and learn to use the Simple Past Tense. Ss are going to learn a letter from Lingling to Daming, in which several irregular past forms will be presented. Ss will learn to use this tense in the real circumstances. In addition, Ss will know something relative cultural customs, that is the “kilt”.
Ss in Grade 5 are familiar with the Simple Past Tense, it’s easy for them to understand it. But they often forget to use the past forms of the verbs when using this tense to communicate with others. And some irregular forms of verbs are a little difficult for Ss to remember. Therefore, it is important to help Ss use the Simple Tense freely in a real surcumstance and promote their interests through learning this Unit.
Teaching Aims 1.Knowledge aims:
a. Grasp the following words: Wear-wore, tell-told, man-men, woman-women, theatre, joke, actor
b. Sentences:
The men wore women’s clothes.
The women wore men’s clothes.
The actors told lots of jokes.
c. To grasp the form of the letter. 2.Ability aims:
Students can use the Simple Past Tense to describe the things which happened in the past . 3. Emotional Aims:
a. Understanding the “kilt” in Scotland. b. Make students be likely to join the activities and develop their interest in English.
