The 1st period Schools in Shanghai
Mike, Norman and Lydia are from England. Chen Chen is from China. ( Scene 1: On Monday, a group of students from England are visiting the New Century Primary School in Shanghai.) Norman: Your school is very big. Chen Chen: Yes, we have over one thousand students. Norman: Are all Chinese schools big? Chen Chen: Not really. Most primary schools are not so big. (Scene 2: Chen Chen and Lily are showing the British students around the class building. They are looking at the class schedule on the wall.) Mike: Do all students take the same subjects? Chen Chen: No, only the students in the same grade take the same subjects. Lydia: The school day is very long, isn’t it?
Chen Chen: That’s true. Our morning lessons begin at eight fifteen and we finish school at three thirty in the afternoon. Lily: Do you get any homework after school? Chen Chen:Yes, we do.
Lily: Do you have any hobby groups? Chen Chen: Yes, we do.We have our hobby groups on Mondays. Let us have a look. Lily: Norman and Mike: Great. (Scene 3: Chen Chen is showing the school hobby groups to the British students.) Chen Chen: This is Computer Science hobby group. Sometimes we learn to make PPTs. Sometimes we surf the internet for about 30 minutes. We can’t stay on line for long because it’s bad for my eyes.
Mike: It sounds good. Chen Chen: This is Reading hobby group. I am in this hobby group. I like reading story books. What about you? Norman: I like reading science books better. Lily: Look at those girls. What are they doing? Chen Chen: They are doing arts and crafts. Lily: I hope to join them. Chen Chen: Of course. You may have a try. (Scene 4: Chen Chen is going to take the students to the playground. On their way to the playground, they are passing a beautiful school garden.) Lily: Wow, your school garden is so beautiful. Look, there is a green bird on the branch. Chen Chen: It’s true. Look, it is jumping on another branch.
Norman: How beautiful it is! Oh! It’s flying away. (In a pity tone) (Scene 5: Chen Chen and a group of students are in the playground.) Norman: Do you play a lot of sports at school? Chen Chen: Yes, we have three PE lessons each week. And we also do a lot of sports after school. Norman: Your school life is very happy and colorful.
