Unit 5 Grammar 一、Teaching aims: Knowledge aims: Students can understand some important words, phrases and sentences. Ability aims: Students can use simple past tense correctly to talk about things that happened in the past. Students can summarize and understand the rules of simple past tense Emotional aims: Students will be more willing to take part in class activities and also more interested in English grammar.

二、Teaching key points and difficult points: Key points: Students can totally understand the rules of simple past tense. Difficult Points: Students can use simple past tense correctly to talk about things that happened in the past.

三、Teaching procedures: Step 1

Lead-in First show some pictures about things that the teacher did last weekend to the students.. Then ask some students to talk about their weekends like what they did,

where they go and how they feel. Step 2 Presentation ① Show Millie’s and Amy’s pictures on the screen, and ask the students to answer the questions according to the pictures: “Do you know what they did last weekend?

And what did they do last month?” So the students can answer together: “They went to Sunshine Park last month. They went to the Palace Museum last weekend.” Then the teacher can write the two sentences that students mentioned on the blackboard.

② Group work: Ask the students to work in group of four to look at the sentences on the blackboard and read the instructions on their textbooks carefully. Try to find the similarity, especially on the verb. In the end, ask the students to find out the rules of simple past tense ③ The teacher can invite some students to share their ideas with the whole class. Ask the students to discuss together and help them conclude the rules of simple past tense. Meaning: to express the things that happened in the past Regular form:

Most verbs: +ed

e.g. walk - walked, talk - talked Verbs ending in –e :+d

e.g. live - lived, like - liked Verbs ending in a consonant +y: -y + ied

e.g. cry - cried, try - tried Short verbs ending in a vowel + a consonant:

double the consonant +ed e.g. stop -topped Irregular form:

write -wrote; drive – drove make – made; spend – spent

bring ② Finish task B: Show some pictures and ask the students to describe what they did last weekend, for example: Peter bought some beautiful flowers. One of my classmates was under the tree. The students came back to school at 1 p.m.

Step 4 Pair work and summary Ask the students to make a dialogue in pairs to talk about some things that they experienced in the past. Then the teacher can invite some pairs to perform in front of the class. Then summarize the rules of simple past tense together with the students. Step 5 homework Homework: Write a short passage about your last trip.

四、Teaching reflection

本课时的教学任务是要求学生了解和掌握一般过去时的用法规律，首先通过教师本人的经历引入“last weekend”这个过去的时间概念，引导学生从一般现在时过渡到一般过去时，并通过例句指导学生观察并讨论一般现在时的概念和规律，在此过程中要尽可能让更多的学生积极参与到课堂活动中来，让他们学会自主探索，而不是只靠教师来说来讲，让学生学会认真观察和独立思考。同时也要巧妙利用多媒体，让学生注意到一般现在时和一般过去时的不同点，从而引发他们的积极思考。
