Teaching Process Stage1 Grammar Step1: Greetings
(Purpose: In this part, the teacher try to guide students to talk about their National Holiday by referring to the simple past tense. Through some questions, students can pay attention to the time expressions for the simple past tense. ) T: Now, let’s get started. Good morning, class.
Ss: Good morning, Miss Huang. T: Thank you. Sit down please. So, how is your national holiday? Ss’ possible answers: just so so. Too much homework.
(针对作业,顺便讲个笑话) Do you know why there is always so much homework? Because homework is uncountable. T: So you did a lot of homework during the holiday. What would you do when you were a primary school student? Would you still spend your time doing homework during the holiday? I would …when I was a primary school student.
I would … when I was a child.
T: What did you do during the national holiday? What did you enjoy most? (Possible answers: sleep.)
T: So when did you get up during the holiday? When do you usually get up at school? How about at elementary school? I got up at _____ during the holiday? I usually get up at ______ at school?
You used to
get up at … but now you have to get up ….
T: Do you still remember what you did three days ago? If you can’t remember the time exactly, so what do you remember what you did the other day or a few days ago? I… three days ago. I… the other day/ a few days ago.
I remember the day……
I remember doing sth….
I will never forget my first visit to…
Step2: Conclude the rules of the simple past tense
1
I got up
at 9 o’clock during the national holiday.
But I usually get up at 6:20 o’clock at work.
I used to get up at 7 o’clock.
I spent most of the time sleeping during the national holiday because I was so exhausted.
I used to do my homework and do some reading during the holiday. When I was young, I would visit my relatives with my parents. I remember being a bridesmaid of my friend on Oct.2nd. I received a surprising calling from one of my old friends in America the other day. T: So you can see when we describe things that happened in the past, we should use simple past tense. Besides changing the verb’s form, we can also use the structure: used to +V; would + V. And the time expressions are … (可让学生注意参考世纪金榜P29,注意提醒the other day 这个短语

Stage2:Writing Step1:Lead in writing topic T: Ok, the topic in this unit is about travel. We say, life is a journey. There many things, interesting, exciting, unforgettable, unusual, happened on this journey. We’d better write it down in case we may forget it. These things may be the:
1.
My first train ride 2.
The best journey of my life 1. Choose or write a suitable title.
3.
My first family holiday
4.
The most unusual journey I’ve made
5.
The most unforgettable journey
Step2: Writing skills (Purpose: in this part, we will solve the problem of tense, the structure and words uses.) Task1:
Tense 2
T: what tense should we focus on about these topic? Task2: Structure and content T: What kind of our passage will be? (文体Stylistic feature) A. narration(记叙文) B. exposition(说明文) C. argument(议论文) D. essay (散文)
T: Right. Narration. So we should include the basic elements: “5W and 1H”.
Part1:
Brief introduction about your journey/holiday
Who What
when where why How
The means of vehicle; how is your feeling You can see the first part of the passage “My first ride on a train”
Pay attention, since it is something that impressed you most, you emotion must be very strong and clear. So you had better convey you emotion through the whole passage. But how? In para1, what did the writer say? …
T: Good, “What a ride!”. So we can easily judge that the writer likes this ride. So here “how” can mean how you feel. Understand?
T: About Part2, the body part, what should we write? T: Ok, that depends on your title and your experience. You may focus on the description of your scenery, or the special things that happened on the way. Like the part 2 in the “My first ride on a train” or you can focus on describing a story, like the childhood memories on P26. We say “Travel is what we see, hear, do and learn on the way.”
What you saw What you did What learnt
What happened
you
3
T: Similarly, our emotion should be shown in our description. So how can we express our feelings? Ss: adjectives, 比喻
(simile)
T: Good. Do you still remember some adjectives that we can use in our passage we have learnt in these three modules? Module 3 Module 2 Module 1 wonderful, great, comfortable, nice,
The stars shone like diamonds. amusing, energetic, serious, relaxing/relaxed enthusiastic, disappointed impressive brilliant, embarrassing/embarrassed, disappointing/
T: When we connect these things together, we should pay attention to the logy, the order. Certainly, you can have 1 or 2 paragraphs in part 2. In the writing, you can see: Part2 Para1 Connections For the first few hundred kilometers of the journey,
After that, Suddenly During the day One night, at about midnight Para2
T: Finally, we say travel is an experience in which we can share some feeling, some knowledge we have learnt. So in the last part, we had better give a conclusion of our trip. In the passage, the writer share the history of transportation with us. For you, you don’t have to write so much. Just one or two sentences are Ok. These expressions may help you for your last part. be attracted / moved by the beauty / view, never forget our trip to/this unusual exprience…
leave an unforgettable impression on sb. have a positive effect on, have a good time, enjoy oneself ... our trip to ... is unforgettable
Stage3:Conclusion Step1: The structure T: Ok, now let’s review the structure of this composition

Stage4: Finish the composition Step1:
(If there is enough time, ask students to finish their composition and then check with their partner. After that, show 1 or 2 to the whole class.) Step2:(If there is not enough time, show the process of my composition to the students) The Most Unusual Journey I Have Made This summer vacation, my new colleagues and I went to Hong Kong to receive training of being a modern teacher. I was excited because it was such a chance once in a blue moon that I could broaden my eyes. We flew to Shen Zhen first, then we walked to the border of Hong Kong. After that, we took a subway to the downtown Hong Kong. Hong Kong was a fantastic city. The transportation worked well. Although the street was very narrow, there was seldom traffic jam. The environment was very clean. You could hardly find any litters on the street. When I got on the double-decker bus, owe, it was awesome. The room was very big. There were many seats and you needn’t stand.
We spent 4 days listening to Mr. Qiu’s lecture. He was an amusing and intellectual man. I never slept in his class even though I felt sleepy. In the morning and evening, we had classes about how to be an excellent teacher, how to be a good team member. In the afternoon, he showed us around Hong Kong. We visited Hong Kong University, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and Tai Ping Mountain where we had a good view of the sunset. The sun looked like a delicious big fried cake. Travel makes us learn and know the world. I was deeply attracted by Mr. Qiu’s brilliant lecture and the beautiful scenery in Hong Kong. I would never forget this unusual visit to Hong Kong. I hope I could come here again. 5
