Teaching plan of Module6 Unit2 Happy Halloween! By Yu Jiawen
I. Analysis of the Teaching Materials
This lesson is the second unit of Module 6 in Book 3 of New Standard English. Its topic is “Halloween”. It aims to help the Ss learn how to ask for permission. Moreover, the Ss will consolidate the words and sentences pattern about food by learning the custom of Halloween. So its important points lie in the sentence pattern “Can I have some...?” and its answers “Yes, you can./Sorry, you can’t.”
II. Analysis of the teaching aims 1.Knowledge Aims: (1) Ss will be able to understand, listen and read the following new words: Halloween, trick or treat, give, come in, of course. (2) Ss will be able to listen, read and speak the important sentence patterns: “Can I have some...?”and its answers: “Yes, you can./Sorry, you can’t.”
(3) Ss will be able to understand and read the conversation of this lesson. 2.Ability Aims: (1) Ss will be able to use the sentence patterns:“Can I have some...?”and its answers: “Yes, you can./Here you are./Sorry, you can’t.” to talk about food. (2) Ss will be able to improve their ability in listening, reading and speaking after the text’s learning. (3) Ss will be able to enhance their ability in applying English into reality. 3.Moral Aims:
(1) Ss will be able to know the custom of Halloween.
(2) Ss will be able to co-operate with others, experience happiness from helping people and express their own opinions in English boldly.
(3) Ss will increase their interest and set up self-confidence in language study from the relaxed and pleased teaching and form a positive attitude towards English learning.
III. Key points and Difficult Points 1. Key Points:
(1) Learn to master and use the English words: Halloween, trick or treat, give. (2)Learn to use the functional sentence pattern “Can I have some...?”and its answers: “Yes, you can./Sorry, you can’t.”
2. Difficult Points:
(1)The pronunciation of “Halloween”
(2)Learn to use the functional sentence pattern “Can I have some...?”and its answers: “Yes, you can./Sorry, you can’t.” to talk about food in real life freely.

V. Teaching aids
In order to finish my teaching, I will use media, cloak, pumpkin bag and sweets as the teaching aids.
VI. Teaching procedure Step 1 Warm-up(3’) 1. Exchange greetings. 2. Watch a short video about Halloween.
Step 2 Presentation (24’) 1. Ss introduce the custom what they know about Halloween. T summarize what Ss said and add more custom. During introducing, T teach the new words in whole-class way, selected-group way. 2. Listen and chant Activity1. 3. Text learning.
(1) Ss watch the video of Activity2 and try to understand the text. (2) T lead Ss to read the text. (3) Ss read the text together. Then T ask girls to act as Ms Smart, boys as Tom. (4) Role in read. Ss work in pairs to practise the text then act in the class.
Step 3 Practice(10’) 1. Practice sentence patterns“Can I have some...?”and its answers: “Yes, you can./Sorry, you can’t.”
2. Have a cold food party. Ss try to make conversations by using sentence patterns “Can I have some...?”and its answers: “Yes, you can./Sorry, you can’t.”
3. Listen to Activity4 and chant.
Step 5 Summary(2')
Sum up the language points learned in this period with the students. And tell the Ss that we can talk about Halloween and food in daily life.
Step 6 Homework(1’)
Ss need to finish their practice book.
