Reading A Student of African Wildlife -- by Luo Zhihua from Conghua NO.1 Middle School

（一）

背景

1. 主题意境: 本单元紧扣Women of Achievements这一中心话题，通过介绍几位在不同国度的杰出女性，探讨女性在社会生活中的地位、价值和贡献，关注她们所面临的困境，讴歌他们在社会各个领域的成就。学习本单元的内容有助于提高学生对妇女的社会角色的认识，培养学生（尤其是女生）的自信心、事业心和社会责任感，建立正确的性别观和社会观。

3. 授课时长: 42 minutes

（二）文本分析

本节课是第二课时阅读课，阅读文本材料A Student of African Wildlife为介绍人物的说明文，文章描写了Jane Goodall 与她的同事们在非洲原始森林观察黑猩猩的一个片段，并阐述她从事这项工作的重要性以及她取得的成就；他们通过考察有一些重要发现是在实验室里不可能获得的，这正是Jane Goodall 要到非洲原始森林的原因；她通过多年对黑猩猩生活习性的研究，强烈呼吁让动物回归自然，反对用动物做实验、作广告或从事娱乐活动；她力图唤起人类理解、尊重和保护动物的意识，而她所取得的成就无疑是对广大有进取心的妇女的莫大鞭策和鼓舞。

（三）学情分析

该班是理科普通班，学生的英语基础比较薄弱，学习英语的兴趣和积极性一般。部分学生对阅读兴趣不浓，甚至不知道该从何下手；还有部分学生只停留在表面地完成读后的练习，并没有深层理解文本结构与内容的习惯，自然不能挖掘文本的内在思想与精神，口头评价的自信心和能力不足。

（四）教学目标：（语言知识、文化知识、语言技能、学习策略等）

学生能够通过视频与插图理解语篇标题，猜测文章的内容，提取文段的主体信息与观点，理解语篇的要义；整合文章内容，抓住文章的中心，对Jane Goodall 的行为用形容词或名词来表达自己的看法，就女性如何才能获得成功发表意见，增强获得成功的信心；养成自主学习与合作学习习惯，以及深层思考的习惯。

（五）教学重点：

学生能用自己的语言去概括每段的主旨大意，能挖掘Jane Goodall的成功因素，学会表达当今社会女性取得卓越成就需要具备的品质。

（六）教学难点：

学生用名词或短语去概括每段的主旨大意，从文章字里行间来挖掘Jane Goodall的成功因素，能讨论得出当今社会女性如何才能取得成功，并学习杰出女性的优秀品质。

Step 1 Lead in (5 mins) T plays a video about Jane Goodall and raises the following questions.

T: Who is she?

Where is she?

Why are the chimps so friendly to her? (设计意图：通过视频让学生直观地感受Jane Goodall 的真实生活和考察现场，动感的配乐和可爱的场面激发学生深入阅读了解她的兴趣，调动他们的主观能动性。)

Step 2 Reading (25 mins) (1) T leads Ss to understand the meaning of “a student”in the title after skimming the title, pictures and the text.

(设计意图：引导学生关注文本标题，并通过浏览文本、图片及lead in 的视频，解读Jane 的“student”真正身份为“researcher”,训练学生根据标题预测文本内容的微技能，并带着预测去阅读文本。)

(2) T asks Ss to use a noun (phrase) to summarize each paragraph, filling the following mind map. Then T asks Ss to share notes and answers to the mind-map to see whether they have understand the main idea of each paragraph.

(3) Ss read the text again carefully and find further information to fill in the above mind-map.

(设计意图：通过要求学生细读完成mind-map的第二层填空，指引学生进一步理解篇章要义，并能从文本中提取更细的信息，引导学生理解Jane Goodall 的相关信息。)

Step4 Discussion T asks Ss to discuss in groups about the following questions and gathers their ideas: (1) What do you think of what Jane has done?

(Ss use adj. or noun to express. If necessary, T shows sentences to help.)

(设计意图：本环节旨在引导学生去挖掘文本深层次的女性的高尚精神，并充分利用第一课时所学的描述人物品质的形容词和名词词汇来评价，通过补充表达所需的句式，帮助基础稍弱的学生表达，增加其信心，为后面的写作作铺垫。)

Step 5 Sum up

(1) What have you learned from this class? (2) How to read a passage about a person quickly and efficiently? (3) How to be a great person?

Step 6 Assignment

Practise reading the passage1-3 in Unit1 in the Reference Book quickly and efficiently, using the reading method learnt today.

二、教学反思

（1）设计方面：本节课根据学生的情况，把篇章理解设计由浅层到深入、由整体到细节，然后深挖主人公的高尚品格，进一步引发对“卓有成就的女性”的成功要素进行讨论。这节课主要通过Mind-map和Discussion部分组成，活动简明，较好地指引了学生集中精神在读与理解上，也引起学生关注文本的深层意义，基本达到预期教学目的。

（2）授课过程：本节课教学过程围绕文本内容进行理解（输入）及对深层次精神的挖掘并对主人公的评价（输出），前面理解部分的概括要求能力较高，用时较多，导致用时上超出预算，最后部分的Discussion完成得较仓促。

（3）学生学习效果：本节课从视频引入问题思考，到对文本标题的理解的问答，再到段意概括和细节信息的提取，，参与度较高，愿意迎难而上，学生都还能跟上老师思路。但是到输出部分，需要学生动脑筋思考和概括时，显得消极，幸好老师预备了文本句子和表达所需句式，及时帮扶学生，减低了表达的难度和增强了他们表达的信心。对女性如何获得成就的学习，相信学生们会有所感悟，学会尊重女性，成就自己。
