Teaching objectives: 1.

To have students know about the real situation of the wildlife. 2.

To encourage students to find out some practical advice on saving the

wildlife. 3.

To have the students know about the formal form of a letter of advice

in English.

Ability objectives: 1.

To enhance the students’ fast reading skill

2.

To encourage the students to discover the formal form of a letter of

advice. 3.

To exercise the students’ writing skills.

Moral objectives: 1.

To let the students know the importance of wildlife protection. 2.

To make the students realize that we can write to propose some advice

on certain matter so as to improve the situation.

Key points and difficulties: 1.

To make the students to discover the proper form of the letter of advice

they are going to write. 2.

To get the students put what they have learned into practice.

Teaching aids: Multi-media platform, blackboard.

Teaching approaches:

Task-based Principle, Cooperative Learning, Inductive Learning.

Teaching procedures: Step 1: Lead-in 1. The teacher shows some pictures about the current situation of tiger.

2. Students watch a video about the current situation of wildlife. 3. Students discuss about their feeling on this phenomenon. This step is to lead students in the topic and raise their attention.

Step 2: Pre-writing (Task 1) 1.

Students try to find out the threats to the wildlife. 2.

Students discuss the possible and practical advice on saving the wildlife. This step is to make students express themselves after discussion.

Step 3: Pre-writing (Task 2) 1.

The teacher introduces two letters of advice and the students do fast

reading to decide which one to follow. 2.

Students discover the differences between the two letters in their start

and endings. 3.

Students analyze the structure of Letter A. 4.

Students find out useful expressions for each part in letter of advice by

learning Letter A. This step is to practice students’

fast-reading skill and make students know how to write a letter of advice.

Step 4: Writing (Task 3) Students write a letter of advice to WWF. This step is to make students put what they’ve learned into use.

Step 5: Post-writing (Task 4) 1.

Students swap their first drafts with their partners and try to evaluate

them. 2.

Some students are invited to read and share their drafts. This step is to make students think and find out problems by themselves.

Step 6: Homework

1.

Write a second draft. 2.

Learn Letter B and know how to answer the letter from a friend asking

for advice on certain matter. This step is to review what’ve been learned in this class.
