Working the Land Reading

A Pioneer For All People Teaching goals: 1.Enable the students to comprehend the story of Yuan Longping. 2.Get the students to learn the development of the text and experiencethe reading skills, skimming & scanning etc.

3.Help the students learn some important words,phrases and sentence patterns. Teaching important points :

1. Help the students to comprehend the story of Yuan Longping. 2.Get the students to learn from Yuan’s story and come to the idea that great personality is of importance to one’s success.

3. Students learn and master some important words,phrases and sentence patterns. Teaching difficult points : 1.Get the students understand what Yuan Longping has done to gain the achievements. 2.Get the students to believe that one`s personality as well as ability is important to one`s success. Pre-reading

1. Enjoy a poem,Sympathy for the Peasants by Li Shen

Farmers weeding at noon, Sweat down the field soon. Who knows food on a tray(盘子), Due to their toiling day. to show the topic of this unit and then show some picture of crops for the students to say out the names of the different crops. 2. Get them to discuss the question: How do we grow plants?

3.Brainstorm what the students know about Yuan Longping to describe him and show the title of the reading passage , A Pioneer of All People.

读前部分用李绅的诗《悯农》引出单元话题，再用农作物的图片刺激、讨论如何种植物、头脑风暴对袁隆平的了解

三个活动任务帮助学生储备阅读词汇，积累文本背景知识即为学生搭建了词汇及背景图式支架使学生进入阅读情景。

【问题聚焦1】

课堂上没有足够的时间使学生通过练习巩固词汇，仍不能完全扫清学生的词汇障碍，所以这个支架还够不上学生的认知水平，即支架打得不够稳妥。

【说明】由于学生英语能力跟不上表达要求，所以设计成选择题、搭配题作为脚手架旨在他们表达文本主旨，明白文本结构。学生理解文本整体后，设计问答题、排序题、选择题、填空题这些多层面的阅读目标任务支架，让学生通过自主阅读和合作学习，逐段寻读捕捉袁隆平博士的外貌、成就，个人简历，个性特征，宏伟梦想这些具体信息，目的是学生有安全感

，敢于发言，同时感受到各段主题对标题的解读及各段细节对各段主题的支撑关系，加深对文本的理解,而且这些细节体验都可以成为读后活动的支撑信息和输出材料。

【问题聚焦2】

因为文章生词较多，学生词汇量匮乏，他们在所给间内无法完成阅读任务，致使延长预设时间。所以，教师在课前让学生做好预习生词的工作。

2.Extended practice

Retell the story of Yuan Longping 【说明】学以致用，呼应开头。拆卸支架，让学生把获取到的话题相关的词汇，信息进行组织整理用于口，笔头表达，进行语言输出。

【问题聚焦3】

学生语言组织能力不强导致输出语言信息不多不具体，所以，教师必须在学生讨论过程中予以有效的指导和引导。

学生在课后给外国友人介绍袁隆平博士旨在让学生进一步组织、运用和巩固本节课的内容，再做一次语言输出。这是读后活动的延伸。

【教学反思】

我在解读文本的时候发现文章结构清晰，从袁隆平的外貌，成就，简历，性格爱好到梦想追求。所以，设计了自上而下的阅读任务，让学生在对文章进行初步理解及深层次理解后，最终能够以书面的形式表达文本内容，实现reading for writing，即读与写的有效结合。

阅读过程中教学活动的任务设计考虑了学生的认知水平，搭建了语言支架，为后面的输出做好足够的语言铺垫。大部分学生反应积极，

基本能够顺利的完成活动任务。但

对于少部分学生阅读时间不够，完不成活动任务，只是跟着老师的预设，跟着老师的思维跑。所以，课堂的有效性没有百分之百的实现。
