1.Greetings.

2. Teacher shows a picture of Jeremy Lin, whom students are very familiar with.

Then teacher will choose someone to give a brief introduction of Jeremy Lin.

Step 2 Presentation

After that, teacher will make a summary about Lin’s way to success.

Thus, v-ing as subject and object will be led in.

1.Now, students are required to have a group discussion about the function of the underlined part. After the discussion, teacher will have several students answer the questions. With the correct answers, students can make a summary that v-ing can function as subject and object in sentences. 2.Question: whether the verb can function as subject or object?

Teacher shows two groups of sentences. And students are required to look at them carefully. After that, teacher will lead students to get the correct answers and make a summary that verb cannot function as subject nor object. 3. v-ing as subject (1) V-ing做主语直接位于句首

Eg: Playing basketball is his hobby. （打篮球）

Getting up early is a good habit.（早起）

Getting fat is dangerous.（变胖）

总结: v-ing 作主语，谓语动词用单数。

注意：

v-ing的否定形式是在前面加not.

Eg:不提高他的技能会使他输掉比赛。

Not improving his skills will make him lose the game. Practice:

Eg1: Not finishing his homework makes him upset.(没有完成作业)

Eg2: Not coming home on time made her parents worried.（没有按时回家）

(2) V-ing做主语置于句末，用it做形式主语(即：It be + adj./n. + doing sth)

Eg: It’s worthwhile communicating with teammates. It’s a waste of time playing computer games. It’s no use arguing with others. It’s a pleasure working with you. (3) V-ing做主语表示泛指、习惯性、经常性的动作；to do 做主语表示具体的动作

Eg: Swimmimg (swim) is good for our health.

To swim

(swim) in this river is not allowed.

Singing (sing) is my hobby, and to sing(sing) on my friend’s birthday party is my dream. 4. v-ing as object

(1)作“动词+介词”构成的短语的宾语

Eg: I can get tired of looking (look) at pictures all the time.

I am looking forward to seeing (see) you again.

He will give up smoking (smoke). 注意：后面常接v-ing做宾语的常用短语有：

give up,

put off,

keep on,

set about,

insist on,

feel like, succeed in,

be/get used to，

devote…to…,

look forward to,

get down to,

pay attention to,

be fond of,

be busy in ,

dream of,

have difficulty in (2)作vt的宾语

有些动词后只能接动名词做宾语：

常跟v-ing作宾语的动词歌诀：

Competition: 学生进行记忆比赛

Competition1: 上图左边汉语记忆两分钟，然后背诵

Competition2: 上图右边英文对照着汉语记忆三分钟，然后背诵

还有一类动词（短语）可接V-ing形式或不定式做宾语，但意义区别较大。

5.V-ing形式的复合结构

带有逻辑主语的V-ing称为V-ing的复合结构。

当V-ing的逻辑主语与句子的主语不一致时，要在V-ing之前加上物主代词或名词所有格，这样便构成了V-ing的复合结构。其中，物主代词和名词所有格就是逻辑上的主语，V-ing是逻辑上的谓语。

My being late made Mr. Li angry.

我的迟到使得李老师很生气。

Eg: Do you mind my closing the window?(close the window这个动作的逻辑主语是我) What I need now is his apologizing to my brother.(apologize to my brother的逻辑主语是他) Step 3 Practice
