Good afternoon, it 's my pleasure to be here to show you my teaching design and I will be glad if you guys have any questions or suggestions after my statement. The material is the reading part in unit 3 "a sense of nonverbal humour" from PEP NSEFC module 4. This unit is talking about nonverbal humour including mime, shuanghuang and clown, and the reading part, titled "a master of English humour", mainly tells us Charlie Chaplin's life and his achievement.

However, most of the students are just familiar with verbal humour which was applied in the daily life. They don't even know what nonverbal humour means. What's worse, Charlie Chaplin is old-fashioned to them. They may be interested in nonverbal humour but definitely not Charlie Chaplin. At the same time, though students in my class are easily activated by videos and pictures, they are too active to be controlled. According to the teaching program, I divided my instructional objectives into 3 parts. The first part is language knowledge, students are asked to grasp the main idea of the passage "a master of English humour" and message about both verbal and nonverbal humour, to search main points through fast reading as well as to retell the main idea of the passage with hints that was given by the teacher. The second is learning skills. To organize proper words to express themselves, and to get the method of retelling was emphasized in this period. The last part is affect and cultural awareness. In this part, to broaden their horizon is necessary.

The second part would be the difficult points among them. Therefore, in order to arise their attention and interest as well as to finish my teaching objectives, I used TBLT designing many "activities" or tasks throughout my class. Based on the things above, I divided the class as warming up, pre-reading, fast reading, careful reading and post-reading 5 steps. Now I will put emphasis on my warming up.

Since the teaching time is limited and precise to senior 2 students, we have to finish warming up and reading once only, as a result, we'd better make a push to get it done in 10 minutes. During the time, attracting the students' attention, carrying out the transition to the passage and throwing light on some background knowledge are the most important. Activity 1: Let students enjoy a video clip starred Mr. Bean in. Compared with Charlie Chaplin, Mr. Bean is obviously in-time and attractive to the students. Mr. Bean will make them relaxed, and the students will be curious about the topic of the class at the same time. The video lasts 3 minutes. Then, I will give them 3 questions in activity 2. These questions are designed related to our topic and go forward one by one. The students could find the answer with the guiding. Finally, activity 3 is brain storming. Students are asked to say some other types of humor and to try to differ non-verbal humor from verbal humor. With the presentation of pictures of various humour, the students are willing to match the types with pictures. The teacher lists them on the blackboard and put them into different categories. The students are required to differ them so that they could identify the differences. And the following steps I will present in my PPT instead of my statement. Let's go through it quickly.
