master some reading skills; 4.

understand knowledge of plants by reading this passage, and learn the development of plants; 5.

understand the important thing: plants play an important role in our life, and they are good for our health, we should protect and cherish plants.

Teaching contents: Unit 4 Exploring plants (Reading-- Plant Exploration in the 18th and 19th Centuries) Teaching emphasis: Identify the topic sentence of each paragraph and the main idea of the text.

Teaching difficulties: Understand some new words. Teaching aids: blackboard, chalk, PPT Teaching procedures: Step1. Dictation (5mins)

Students dictate some important words of this Unit. Step 2. Warming-up (5mins)

Students learn some different kinds of flowers, and learn how to speak in English. Eg. Which flower is your favorite? Why?

Red roses indicate warmth and love.

White ones, purity and simplicity.

Blue ones, honesty and sincerity. Step 3. Pre-reading (7mins) The teacher asks some questions. a)

Students read the passage quickly and try to get the main idea of this passage. ② Detailed reading (Group work)--14mins Students try to get the main idea of each paragraph. And then teacher tells students the right answer. Homework: (3mins)

Read the text again, and answer the following questions. 1.

Why was there a lot of plant collecting in the 18th and 19th

centuries? 2.

How did French missionaries come to be plant collectors? 3.

Transporting plants over long distances was a big problem.
