*Learning goals: 1. To have a good knowledge of the -ing form as the subject and object. 2. finish off all the practice by using –ing form in the real situation 3. apply some useful and basic grammatical items especially in writing and learn from great scientist.

*Teaching precedures Step 1 Lead in 1. Can you talk something about Great scientist ----Yuan Longping? (Especially about Dr Yuan’s scientific work / Dr Yuan’s life attitude)

2. Appreciate some sentences with -ing form from the text 1).Since then, finding ways to grow more rice has been his life goal. (subject) 2).As a young man, he saw the great need for increasing the rice output. (object of preposition) 3). Dr Yuan searched for a way to increase rice harvests without expanding the area of the fields. (object of preposition ) 4). However, he doesn’t care about being famous. (object of preposition ) 5). He enjoys listening to violin music,playing mah-jong, swimming and reading. (object of verb) 6). Spending money on himself or leading a comfortable life also means very little to him. Step 2 Presentation I -ing form used as the subject 1. -ing置于句首，谓语用单数。 1）早起被认为是好习惯 ___________________ is thought to be a good habit. 2)学习新单词对我来说非常重要 ____________________ is very important for me．

3)说比做容易 _________ is easier than doing 2. 形式主语it置句首，真正主语-ing移置句尾。表语只限于某些形容词或少数名词，如useful，useless，no use, good , no good，pleasant , fun ，worth , worthwhile 等。 1) It’s worth making the effort．

2. 既可接-ing又可接 to do作宾语的动词，有：begin，start，continue，like，love，prefer，forget，regret,remember，hate等。 A. 在like，love，hate，prefer等动词之后，用-ing表示泛指的动作，to do表示具体的一次性动作。 B．在动词forget，remember，regret等动词之后，用-ing表示动作已发生，to do表示动作未发生,如： 1) I _______________ her at a party once. 我记得曾经在派对上见过她 2）I will ________________her at the airport tomorrow. 我会记得明天去机场接她 3. 作介词宾语. -ing可与介词一起构成介词短语。 A．介词+动名词 1) 同学们脸上没有笑容，相反都做了怪脸。 _________________，each of them made a face．

【reflection】

In general, most of the students can finish the exercises by using the right the -ing form as the subject and object. However, it is still hard for some students to have the right the -ing form as the subject and object in the real writing situation . And therefore, I will guide the students to do more practice while reading or writing.
