Analysis of the teaching material

This unit is the first of Module four and it is centered with different cultural relics. In this period, we’ll deal with the some usages of some key words,phrases and sentence patterns when students are making sentences, and enable the students to use key points flexibly and correctly. ●

Teaching strategies

This period is designed as a student-centered process of solving problems and breakthroughing the difficulties in groups. Students are encouraged to process the given information with the joint efforts of all the group members, exercise their minds, and improve their ability of using language. The teacher will help the students to learn during their learning process and act as an organizer and observer of the students’ activities and will lead the students to solve the problems and inspire them to voice their valuable ideas during the discussion.

② This paper is designed with the main purpose of emphasizing the key points and breaking the difficult points during the process of independent learning, discussion and communication, presentation, and comments-making. 

Teaching Procedures ( T

for teacher’s work ; S for students’

work) Before class:

T: Design the learning guide for the students to finish before class. This paper mainly consists of three parts: TaskI--independent learning, TaskII--cooperative study and TaskIII---ability improving. Step 1：Leading-in T: Lead in this period by introducing some sentences. Purpose：Lead in this period. Step 2：Explain the learning objectives T: Explain the learning objectives of this period to inform the students of the objectives that they need to achieve after this period.

Purpose: Make the students know what to be learnt, how to learn and if they have achieved their goal, how great they will be. Step 3：Feedback on the paper.

T: Give a feedback and talk about how well the students have finished this paper. Show on the screen the names of the excellent students, excellent groups as well as their shining points to encourage the students to work harder. Besides, the teacher will also talk about the problems that the students have while finishing this paper. Purpose: Make students know what they should pay special attention to when discussing Step 4：Self study T: Ask two students to explain the sentences in Task I, and ask them to check the answers and put forward their questions as well as different ideas. S：Volunteer to give the answers, check the answers and voice their questions as well as different ideas bravely. Purpose: Check how well the students have previewed the key points. Step 5：Discussion S: Discuss the twelve sentences in Task II and the five translation in Task III in groups, and pay special attention to No, 2,4, 6, 7,8 in Task

II as well as No, 1, 4 in Task III.

T: Walk around the classroom and be ready to answer the questions the students may raise while discussing. Purpose：Involve the students in class activities and let them break through the difficulties through group discussion. Step 6：Presentation

S: A student from each group will show the results of their discussion either on the blackboard or orally.

Purpose: Check how well they understand the key points by speaking out their answers and explaining the answers. Step 7:

Making comments S: A student from each group will comment on each sentence shown on the blackboard. T: Observe and answer the speaker’s questions when needed, summarize the key points, and take notes when necessary.

Purpose: Check how freely they understand the key points by presenting their answers on the blackboards and explaining the answers.

Step 8：Summary

T: Summarize what have been learnt in this period.

Purpose：Check how well the students have mastered the key points.

Step 9：Quiz in class

T：Show some exercises on the screen and ask several students to answer them. T: Ask students to choose one or two exercises and write them on the whiteboard as a quiz

S: Tell the other students how to deal with the exercises

Purpose: Check how flexibly they can use the key points Step 10 Evaluation

S: English monitor will summarize how the students behaved in this period and praise the excellent students and groups to encourage the students to work harder and do it better next time. Purpose: To learn from those who has behaved well in class.

Step 11: Homework

T: Assign the homework today.

Purpose: Review the key points and review the knowledge in next period.
