The Attributive Clause (1)

Analysis of the teaching material The attributive clause is a very important grammar item. Therefore, the emphasis of this lesson is mainly placed on understanding and using of it. (2)

Analysis of the Ss The Ss in my class have certain knowledge about attributive clause. But they can not apply it well. So I will create a relatively real context and present enough sentences for Ss to understand the antecedents and relative pronouns. (3)

Analysis of teaching aims Based on the analysis of the teaching material and Ss, I set the teaching aims as follow: Knowledge aim: help Ss to understand the function of attributes and the definition of antecedents and relative pronouns. What’s more, enable Ss to know the relative pronouns and how to use them correctly. Emotional aim: by learning the attributive clause , we help Ss to enrich their ways of expressing someone or something, which can arouse their love for both Chinese and English. (4)

Analysis of the key and difficult points Key points: first, enable Ss to understand the definition of antecedents and relative pronouns. In addition, they can choose the correct relative pronouns when they make complex sentences. Difficult points: enable Ss to make sentences containing attributive clause independently and correctly. (5)

Analysis of the teaching procedures It consists 3parts: leading in, analysis and consolidation.

Leading in At the beginning of the class, I will show Ss a picture of my duaghter. It can provide a relatively real context for the Ss. I will give Ss the noun, for example “a girl”, and let Ss describe her.

By doing this, Ss can know we can use a word or phrase to modify a noun. And then I will lead Ss to be aware that we also can use sentences as an attribute, that is, the attributive clause. In order not to mix the noun clause and the attributive clause, I think it’s essential to make a clear understanding about the function of attribute. Analysis

I will divide it into 3 steps. The first step is to show a song That’s why you go away which consists of some sentences of attributive clause. After listening to the song, I will show Ss the attributive clause mentioned in the song and help Ss to find out the rules of it. The second step is to ask Ss to combine two simple sentences into one complex sentence. In order to make clear about how this kind of complex sentence is constructed, I’ll help them to find out how to use the relative pronouns to substitute the same noun in another sentence. The third step is conclusion. After the practice of some sentences, I’ll help Ss to understand the definition of antecedents and relative pronouns. What’s more, we will summarize the rules of attributive clause and the special cases of “that”. Consolidation

Last but not least, I prepare some exercises for Ss to practice attributive clause. In order to enhance their ability, I will arrange practice section from simplicity to difficulty. The first one is to fill in the blanks. I prepare some sentences for Ss to fill in the blanks by using relative nouns. The second is generative exercise. By group discussion, they need to write down some attributive clauses to describe one student of their own group. After preparation, other groups try to guess which student they are talking about. (6)
