Teaching aims:

Enable students to master skills of reading and speaking.

Help students to develop an interest in speaking English. Teaching important and difficult points: 1.

Help students to get the main idea of the reading passage by using different reading skills. 2.

Instruct the students to describe something in English. Teaching methods: 1.

Discussion and pair work. Teaching aids: A computer and a blackboard. Teaching procedures: Step1: Greeting：Good morning, everyone! Step2: Warming up：

Show some pictures of androids and introduce the topic.

T: In the last two lessons, we learned the development and applications of the computer. Today, we will learn something related. Now look at some pictures and guess the topic today.

Ss: Androids.

T: Yes. Look at the pictures again. As we know, androids can do a lot of things in our life. What do you suppose they can do?

Ss: dance, do heavy jobs, do housework, play music, communicate with people, play with people and so on.

T: That’s right. And today, let’s find out what Andy can do. Now open your book

and turn to page23.

Step3: Skimming: Instruct the students to get some information of the reading passage and make a summary of the passage. T: Go through the passage quickly and try to answer the following questions.

He would really like to play against a human team. T: Andy is just an android. But amazingly, he can play football well. Who is his coach? Now listen to the tape and try to answer this question. Ss: His programmer. In other words, Andy is programmed to act and think like a human. He just uses his artificial intelligence.

dangerous jobs in factories. Some help to do simple housework again and again without feeling bored. Others can entertain people by playing music.Others can even work as doctors or nurses. They are amazing. If I have a chance to create my own android, I hope

to have one like this. Step5: Instruct the students to describe an android by giving a demonstration. T: (give a demonstration)

I would like to have an android named Beauty, which looks like a human. It is as big as a small toy so that I can take it wherever I go. I hope it can play beautiful music to cheer me up when I am upset. I also hope it can

talk to me when I am lonely. All in all,

I will regard it as my best friend. I don’t mind what kind of music it plays, but it must be understanding and patient enough. Now, it is your turn to create your android. Work with your partner to create your android.
