Warming up Language is learned in context. So let’s first review the text learned yesterday by reading it aloud. Step2

Discovering useful words and expressions Do the exercises 1, 2 and 3 on pages 11 and 12. You must finish them in 5 minutes. Step3

Learning about grammar I.Read the text about Yuan Longping again, paying attention to the sentences which use the –ing form as the subject and object.

For example: (Spending money on himself or leading a comfortable life also means very little to him. The “v–ing” is used as subject. )

(However, he doesn’t care about being famous. The “v—ing” can be also used as object of the sentence) II.To consolidate your understanding you will be given 10 minutes to go over exercises 1,2,3,4 and 5 on pages 12 and 13. You may just write on your text book. III．

1.作动词的宾语

常接动词-ing形式作宾语的动词可用下面口诀

避免错过少延期(avoid, miss, postpone) 建议完成多练习(advise, finish, practice) 喜欢想象禁不住(enjoy, imagine, can’t help)

承认否定与嫉妒(admit, deny, envy) 逃避冒险莫原谅(escape, risk, excuse)

忍受保持不介意(stand, keep, mind) Kate couldn’t help _______(jump)with joy on hearing the good news.

They consider_______(go)to Hainan for the summer holiday. 2、作动词短语的宾语

常见的跟动词-ing形式作宾语的动词短语有：

insist on, object to, be good at, be fond of, lead to, put off ,give up ,look forward to, feel like, devote to, get used to ,

pay attention to, be worth等

动词-ing 形式的否定形式

动词-ing 的复合结构实际上是给动词-ing加了一个逻辑主语。动词-ing形式的复合结构有四种形式：

1下列动词可接动词-ing形式的主动形式表示被动意义，相当于不定式的被动形式。

2有些动词（短语）后接动词-ing或不定式（to do)都可以，但意思不同

3介词（短语）后加动词也用-ing 形式

4某些动词如start,begin,continue等既可接动名词（-ing),可接动词不定式(to do),区别不大。

5在love,hate,prefer,like等动词后接动词-ing形式作宾语指经常性的动作，用不定式作宾语指具体的动作。
