Unit1 What are they doing?

(一) Background information: Students: Primary school students, grade four

(二) Teaching objectives: By the end of the lesson, students should be able to: 1.

Understand the phrases: listening to music, doing taijiquan, rowing a dragon boat, playing

chess, drinking soya milk,playing football; 2.

Can use “They are....ing” to answer the question “What are they doing?”

Can use “They are....ing” to describe the things that people are doing; 4.

Love English and be interested in English learning. (三) Teaching contents:

Vocabulary: listening to music/ doing taijiquan/ rowing a dragon boat/ playing chess/ drinking

soya milk/ playing football.

1. Teaching key points: (1) Understand the phrases: listening to music, doing taijiquan, rowing a dragon boat, playing chess, drinking soya milk, playing football; (2)Can use “They are....ing” to answer the question “What are they doing?”

Step1. Greetings

T : Class begin.

S : Stand up.

T : Good morning boys and girls.

S s : Good morning teacher.

T : How are you?

S s : I’m fine, thank you.And you?

T : I’m fine too, thank you. Sit down please. T : This class, I’m your new English teacher. Do you know my name ?

S s : cherry. T : Ah . Here ‘s my name . It’s on the screen .You’re so smart .so ,you can call me “cherry. ”

Hello , boys and girls.

S s : Hello ,cherry . T : Very good! Ok. This girl please , “How are you today ?”

G : I’m fine ,thank you. And you ? T : I’m fine too, thank you . Good bye ! G : Bye ! T : I think we will have a good time in this class . And I will divide you into seven groups. Here’s a box. Please look at me , what’s this ? It’s present.

T : Ok. If you answer my question right and your group can get a happy face. At last , the group which gets the most happy faces can get my present . Do you want my present?

S s : Yes , I do . T : please come on ,come on ! Step2. Review

Sing and dance “What are you doing ?”

T : We have learned “What are you doing ?”, first let’s sing and dance “What are you doing ?”

Everybody stand up. 2.Take out some pictures and word cards learned in module 2. Then ask some students some questions: “What’s she doing ?” and “What’s he doing ?”

T : Boys and girls, there are some beautiful pictures. please look at the pictures and I will ask you some questions. If you know the answer, please put up your hands. Picture one, what’s she doing? Picture two, what’s he doing? Picture three……Picture five, what’s she doing? 3.Say a chant

T : Here’s an interesting chant. Boys and girls please follow me and clap your hands.

Running, running, I am running.

Swimming, swimming, you are swimming.

Dancing,dancing, she is dancing.

Reading, reading, he is reading.

Jumping, jumping, they are jumping. Step3. Presentation 1.

Show some beautiful pictures:

(1) T: Do you know what’s this ?

S s : 龙

T: Dragon. Dr, Dr, /dr /dr //dr / . A, A, /æ/ /æ/ /æ/, /dr æ /

T: Look at this boat , it’s a dragon boat . Do you know what are they doing ? So today we’ll learn “unit 1 What are they doing ?” Look at the people on the dragon boat, they are? 他们在干嘛?

S s : 他们在划龙船。

T: “They are rowing a dragon boat .” row —rowing —rowing a dragon boat —

They are rowing a dragon boat .

T: Look at the second picture. They are ?

S s : 他们在打太极拳。

T: “They are doing taijiquan.” do—doing —doing taijiquan—They are doing taijiquan.

T: Look at the two boys. They are ?

S s : 他们在下象棋。

T: “They are playing chess .”

play—playing —

T: The forth picture . The boys and the girls are ?

S s : 他们在喝牛奶。

T: “They are drinking milk .”

drink—drinking —

T: There are two boys. They are ?

S s : 他们在听音乐。

T: “They are listening to music.”

listen—listening —listening to music—They are listening to music.

T: Ok. The last picture. They are?

S s : They are playing football.

T: Good job!

2. Take out the pictures and teach students to read the phrases: rowing a dragon boat, doing taijiquan, playing chess, drinking milk, listening to music, playing football.

3. Teacher show the pictures one by one and ask students to read the phrases out.

4. Game1: Low voice and loud voice.( the phrases in new lesson )

T: Ok, boys and girls. Let’s play a game “Low voice and loud voice”. When I speak in low voice, you should speak loudly. But when I speak loudly, you should speak in low voice. For example I say “rowing a dragon boat ”,you should say “rowing a dragon boat. ” Are you ready? Yes or no?

S s : Yes.

T: Ok. Let’s begin.

Game2: silent mouth.

T: Let’s play another game “silent mouth”. Please look at my mouth carefully and guess what I say, I will speak in very low voice.

5. Look at the slides on the screen and practice the sentence pattern:

They are ....ing. Step4. Take exercises

Take exercises to relax and consolidate. T: Boys and girls, let’s take exercises to relax.Everybody please stand up. First, read after me.

Mr bear, mr bear, what are they doing?

They are dancing dancing dancing dancing......

Mr monkey, mr monkey, what are they doing?

They are climbing, climbing, climbing, climbing......

Mr rabbit, mr rabbit,

what are they doing?

They are jumping, jumping, jumping, jumping......

Mr dog, mr dog, what are they doing?

They are barking, barking, barking, barking......

Mr duck, mr duck, what are they doing?

They are walking, walking, walking, walking...... Step5. Summary and practice

Sum up what we have learned in this class. T: Today, we have learned unit1 What are they doing? Let’s check it. Please look at the screen.(Ask students look at the slides on the screen and practice the sentence pattern:

Step6. Homework

Try to read the text in unit 1. Step7. Sing goodbye song. T: What’s a pity. Time’s up. Let’s say goodbye song to each other ,ok ?
