Warming up Introduce some jokes(play on words) ①Tongue twisters

eg:Can you can a can as a canner can can a can? 你能像罐头工人一样装罐头吗？

eg: I scream,you scream,we all scream for ice-cream！

我叫喊，你叫喊，我们都喊着要冰激凌！

②Pun eg: He is not a grave man until he is a grave man. 其中的grave 有两个意思，一个是严肃的（形容词），一个是坟墓（名词）因此这句话的意思是：

他不是一个严肃的人，除非他躺到坟墓里才能严肃起来。

eg: They pray for you today and prey on you tomorrow. 其中的pray（祈祷）和prey（捕食），发音相同，外形相似

这句话的意思是：他们今天为你祈祷，明天就会加害于你。

③Riddle:A difficult and often amusing question to which one must guess the answer eg: No sooner spoken than broken. What is it? (silence) eg: The man who invented it doesn't want it. The man who bought it doesn't needed it. The man who needs it doesn't know it.What is it? (a coffin) 2.

Read the three jokes which use “play on words” to amuse us and match the joke with the explanation on p22 4.

Read the funny story about the famous detective Sherlock Holmes and his friend. And then find some students to act it out. 5.

Listening Listen to the tape on p23 and do some exercise. Listen to part1 and write down the main idea.
