Learning goals:

1). Revise words and useful expressions about computers. 2). Learn the development of the computer and its applications. 3). Discuss what the advantages and the disadvantages about the Internet are. 5. Important points

Revise vocabulary about computers, try to understand the whole text by using different target reading skill and cooperate with others to discuss the internet in groups.

Difficult points Exactly grasp the details about the development of the computer according to time clue and have a correct view of the internet’s usage.

Teaching methods: Task-based language teaching(TBLT); Communicative language teaching (CLT). 8.

Teaching aids: Multi-media, blackboard, chalk. 9.

Teaching procedure: 1)

Greeting and warming-up Teacher will lead in the topic by showing the pictures of some machines and ask Ss to name them in English in order to revise vocabulary about computers, such as abacus, calculator, laptop, personal digital assistant, robot and so on. Ask Ss to find out the same function of these machines: calculate. Then by predicting What’s next, motivate Ss to learn the develop of the computer and its applications.

While-reading Step1. Skimming (5 mins) Students skim the text to find out the topic sentence of each paragraph and the main idea.

Students read the passage again and according to timeline find out the changes of the computer.

1642: The computer began as a calculating machine. 1822: The analytical machine was made by Charles Babbage. 1936: The computer grew rapidly both in size and in brainpower. 1940s: Computers had grown as large as a room. 1960s: The first family of computers was connected to each other. 1970s: Computers were used in offices and homes. Now: Computers connect people all over the world together. Step3:Careful-reading: Ask Ss to read the text again and complete the chart below.
