一、教材分析和学情分析

本单元是模块二第四个单元，其中心话题是“野生动植物的保护”。本课是该单元的语法课，也是本单元的第三节课，主要学习现在进行时的被动语态。

我的教学对象为高中一年级学生。学生初中时已经接触过被动语态的相关知识，而且在高一必修二第二和第三单元也分别学习了将来时的被动语态和现在完成时的被动语态，所以学生对于被动语态的理解和运用已经具备了一定的基础。

二、教学目标

1. 熟练掌握现在进行时的被动语态的表达结构；

2. 在语境中能正确恰当地运用现在进行时的被动语态。

三、教学重点和难点：

1. 熟练掌握现在进行时的被动语态的表达结构；

2. 在语境中能正确恰当地运用现在进行时的被动语态。

四、教学过程

Step 1

Lead-in

Show the students the following two sentences and ask them what the structure of the passive voice.

I bought these cakes for you. → These cakes were bought for you.

Step 2

Discovering useful sentences

Show the students the following sentence, and ask them to pay attention to the verb tense. Then pick out four more sentences using the present progressive passive voice from the passage and translate them in Chinese. We are being killed for the wool beneath our stomachs. Step 3

Analysing the sentences and summing up the structure of the present progressive passive voice

Ask students to look at the sentences and analysing the structure of the present progressive passive voice. Step 4

Practice

Try and see if you can help fill in the following form. ( Pair work) Questions Who is studying the rhino? Who is protecting the African elephant? Who is hunting the Tibetan antelope? Who is taking photos of the panda? Who is killing the whales? Who is attacking the mice? What is being done for the Milu deer? Answers The rhino is being studied by _______. The African elephant is __________. The Tibetan antelope is __________. The panda is __________. The whales __________. The mice __________. They are being kept in ________.

What is being done for the rhino? What is being done to the rainforest? What is being done to millipedes? Step 5 Playing a game It is being __________. It is __________. They __________.

Ask the students to play the game called “Tell me what should you do”. Then work in pairs and ask each other questions containing the present progressive passive voice.

Example: S1: What should you do if your car is being stolen? S2: If my car is being stolen, I should call the police station. Possible questions might be: 1.What should you do if your friend is being attacked? 2.What should you do if you are being followed by a stranger?

3.What should you do if you are being kept waiting?

4. What should you do if you are being asking difficult questions?

5. What should you do if you are being bitten by mosquitoes?

6. What should you do if you are being run after by a dog?

7. What should you do if you are being punished by your parent for something you did wrong?

8. What should you do if you are being praised?

Step 6 Discussion (Group work) In small groups choose one of these questions to discuss. Prepare to give a

presentation of your ideas to the class. 1.

What is being done in your school to improve your English studies? What suggestions do you have? 2.

What changes are being made in your town to improve the environment? What do you suggest? Step 7

Summary What did you learn in class? The structure of the present progressive passive voice: am/is/are+being+p.p.

Step 8

Homework: Writing Write a composition about your ideas on either of the above two questions you discussed, and try to use the present progressive passive voice.
