教材分析

The emphasis of the period is laid on developing students’

reading, speaking and writing abilities. We will mainly deal with the following part: Using language on Page17 and 18.

This is the story of Captain Bligh amazing journey across the Pacific Ocean in an open boat with his followers after another group sailors under Fletcher Christian had taken over the ship. Captain Bligh and his men made for the island of Timor using a combination of navigational skill and “dead reckoning”,which is guessing the correct direction. They experienced the lack food and water, however, the captain encouraged his crew all the time and tried to take their minds off their starvation and thirst. After a great many hardships and sufferings, they reached Timor eventually. They completed the greatest navigational feat of all time.

教学过程

Step I: Revision

Read and match the new words which were read in last period together in order to strengthen them. Step II: Lead in

Listen to a song called “Sailing”

to lead in the main topic in this period naturally. Step III: Listening and speaking(A “PK” competition)

Making a speech and having a “PK”

competition. During this activity, everybody can listen to a story about Cook that has three paragraphs, every speaker will make a speech for one paragraph, so students should listen carefully and answer the questions made by each speaker after listening. Step IV: Reading

Answer the questions and try to find the evidence in the passage according to what they have previewed. Step V: Discussion 1.Do you think how many parts the passage can be divided into?

2.How to divide the passage? 3.What does every part talk about? Step VI: Writing

Write a short story about the text according to the pictures. Summary: What does the story tell us? Homework: Retell the passage in the students’ own words.
