Students are interested in learning English as well as the dialects, but as senior one students in country school, they have weak language skills to express their ideas and poor knowledge to understand the information in the text. Besides, they almost come from countryside and feel unconfident to face the camera, which makes them not dare to speak fluently and loudly. Therefore, teacher should pay more attention to their emotion, understand and encourage them. Teaching procedures: Step1. Revision and lead- in 1. Retell the main idea of THE ROAD TO MODERN ENGLISH. As time goes by, more people speak English as their____, _____or a______ language than

ever before. Not only people in western countries but also people in_____ Africa and people in Asia such as India,________ , ______

and China speak English. Actually China may have the _____number of English learners. With the development of technology(技术) and economy (经济)of America, English becomes more and more_________ than________. [Design intent] Revise the passage to elicit students’ prior knowledge to arouse their interest of study and prepare for the lesson. 2. Enjoy the picture and make a dialogue. Let students enjoy a picture. Make a dialogue to help the cat go away. [Design intent] Introduce the topic to students and stimulate their interest of learning English. Step2. Reading and comprehending Task 1: Scanning to get main ideas of 3 paragraphs. [Design intent] Develop students’ sense of grasping target sentences while fast reading and the ability of dealing with given information.

Task 2: Skimming to get more information. Present Para.1 by 2 questions [Design intent] Lead students to grasp the key points in the reading material with specific requirements to train their reading skill. Present Para.2 by a chart. [Design intent] Develop students’ ability of mastering appointed information.

Present Para.3 by T or F questions. [Design intent] Help students overcome difficult comprehending points in order to strengthen their learning interest and understand the text further. Task 3: Summarizing the passage by blank filling. What is standard English? There is no ___________ as standard English. Many people believe the English _________ on TV and the radio is ________ English. While dialect is kind of language where people use words and expressions _______________the “standard language". American English has many dialects because people have __________all over the world. ____________also plays a part in making dialects. Step 3. Writing Ask Ss to make a poster about learning English. 1. Demonstrate a sample poster. [Design intent] Conduct students to imitate model poster and encourage them to appreciate more English articles aiming at feeling the charm of English language. 2. Analyze the structure of a poster to the students. [Design intent] Analyze the writing task and enable students familiar with what they will write.

3. Teach the students how to make a poster. [Design intent] Guide students to master the main structure and useful sentences of writing an article about traveling to improve students’ English proficiency. 4. Finish the article and share their compositions. [Design intent] Build students’

problem-solving ability by using their learned knowledge. Demonstrate students’ letters to experience success and create confidence.
