Book 2 Unit 3 Computers Learning about Language The analysis of the teaching material This is the fourth teaching period of Unit three,book two and students have known some basic information about the development

and history of computers in the first three periods of this unit.So in order to arouse students’

interest,I first show students some pictures and students biefly retell the development of computers by filling in some blanks,using some useful words and phrases.The whole class is mainly divided into three parts,reviewing,exercises and creating.They are not only the process where students can learn the English language and various experssions about AI,but also the process where teachers cultivate students’

language skills,emotional attitude and learning strategies as well.This is the main process in developing students’

word-using and writing abilities in the teaching process. In the Review,I first show students 3 pictures to present the words:calculate,simplify,solve, logically and technological revolution and then show them another 5 pictures to introduce computers’

new applications,leading students to speak out the sentences:“These products have totally changed our life.Anyhow, they serve our human race.”

In the Exercise part,it mainly deals with the correct usages of some important words. As to the speaking,reading skills, I design group work, class work as well as individual work. In the creating part, I ask students to enjoy my story about radios.Later they should create their own story according to what we have learnt and some reference words in the order of time. The analysis of the students In terms of emotional and cognitive competence,students are at an age when they are curious about the world,so the topic of computers is,without doubt,can arouse their interest.However ,at the end of this

class,the task of writing their own story is a great challenge. Teaching key points and difficult points 1.key points

A.To improve students’ reading, word-using and writing abilities.

B.To briefly introduce some word-formation rules.

C.To cultivate students’ creative ability. 3.Emotional aims: To help students make good use of these expressions in their daily communication.

Teaching procedures: Step1 Greetings and lead-in (5minutes)

Show students some pictures about the development of computers and fill in the blanks with some important words:

Purpose:I start the whole class from what students have learnt in the Reading part so that they can easily recall the meanings of the words in the passage. Step2 Exercises

1) Discovering(4 minutes)

I ask students the find the sentences including these words (simplify,totally,finance,explore,anyhow)in the reading text and then invite some students to read out the sentences.

Purpose:This task can contestualize the words so that students can know their meanings better. 2)Word Usage(13 minutes) a.I ask students to finish Part 1 on Page20.(3 minutes)

Purpose:Emphasize the important points of this class. b.Students choose some words above directly to fill in the blanks (3 minutes)

Purpose:After knowing the words,students can know how to use them in suitable situations. c.I give some sentences and students use the proper forms of the given words to finish them.(4 minutes)

Purpose:Enlarge students’

vocabulary according to the roots so that students can have a good word-guessing ability d.I ask students to finish Part 2 on Page 20 to know my brother’s story related to IT.(3 minutes)

Purpose:This story can arouse students’

interest to make preparations for the next creation activity. Step3.Creation(15 minutes) 1)I share my story about radios with students.(to encourage students to pay more attention to and use appropriate time phrases when they write their own story)(3 minutes) 2)Students use what they have learnt and some reference words to make up tehir story.(12 minutes)

Purpose:to help students to actively apply what they’ve learnt to practise and improve their speaking and writing skills.
