Teaching Plan

Writing: A person I admire

I. Teaching aims: 1. To enable students to know what a descriptive essay about a great person should consist of and how to organize the information. 2. To help students to enlarge words and expressions describing people. 3. To have students practice writing about a great person. II. Teaching important and difficult points: 1. To use the expressions and sentence structures to describe a person, including his/her name, age, birth time and place, family background, appearance, character, hobby, education, career, big events in life, and evaluation by others.

2. To grasp some useful words and expressions and writing skills of describe a great person. III. Teaching methods:

Group competition, cooperative work, individual learning

IV. Teaching procedures: Step I

Lead-in 1. Guessing-game Read an article first and guess who he is. 2. Brainstorm Have a general idea of what a descriptive essay about a person should consist of.

Step II

Useful words and expressions Review some words and expressions to describe a person according to the five aspects that are mentioned above and present some good sample words and expressions of describing a person

Step III

Oral practice Describe one of our classmates to us in three to five sentences (including the five aspects) and let us guess who he/she is. Step IV

Writing skills

Appreciate a model essay and ask them to choose the writing skills.

Step V

Writing 1. Write an essay about Yuan Longping in 15 minutes.

2. Evaluate their partner’s work and correct the mistakes in red ink.

(remind students to pay attention to the tense, person and agreement) 3. Present one before the class and evaluate it.

Step VI

Self-evaluation & Assignment Have a self-evaluation of today’s class and complete the assignment after class: recite the useful words and expressions and the model essay as well as polishing their own first draft and finishing the second draft.
