HOW DAISY LEARNED TO HELP WILDLIFE Class 18, Grade 2011

I. Teaching Aims

1. Knowledge Objects A. Have a good understanding of the whole text and master some words mentioned in this period. B. Enable the students know about the situation of the wildlife today and know about how to protect them. 2. Ability Objects Through teaching, improve the students’ reading comprehensive ability & communicative ability.

3. Emotion & Attitude Objects

Foster the students’ love for the animals, learn how to protect them & call on the students to love our environment, our world.

II. Teaching Important and Difficult Points Help the students find the main idea of the passage and have a summary ; cooperate with partners and conclude what they should do to protect the wildlife . III. Teaching Methods Communicative methods / Task - based method, Comparative Method IV. Teaching Aids: multimedia

V. Teaching Procedure

Step 1 Lead-in

1. Greetings 2. The teacher shows some beautiful pictures to lead the students to the topic of this unit ---wildlife protection.

Step 2 Warming up Show some pictures of lovely but endangered animals, and ask the students “What’s the problem of these animals commonly facing?” , and then lead the students to analyze the reason for these animals dying out together with the teacher. Step 3 Reading Task 1 Pre-reading Show the students that “there has been some progress in saving endangered wildlife in China.” and lead them to the topic of this period “ How Daisy learned to help wildlife”

Task 2 Listening (Fast reading) Ask the students to listen to the passage within and find out: (1) What’s the passage about?? (2) What three places did Daisy go? (3) What three animals did she meet? Task 3 Detailed Reading 1. Ask the students to read the passage paragraph by paragraph and do the exercises below. (Each paragraph has its own exercises, such as filling the blanks, asking & answering and True or False.) 2. Ask the students to retell the story according to the table given Task 4 Discussion Ask the students to discuss about “What do you think we students should do to protect the wildlife?”

Task 5 Post-reading(optional) 1. Show the students the problem which WWF has to deal with (p27), and ask the students to (1) Find out the problems that the farmers and the wildlife face. (2) answer the questions: a. Should the poor farmers move to another place? b. Can they be employed to work in the park and not hurt the animals? c. How can animals be protected from more people coming into the park? d. What should be done to punish people who do harm to the animals? Step 4 Homework 1. Do the exercises on P27 “Comprehending 1&2”.

2. Find out the structures in the passage that you think are useful, important or difficult to understand. Step 5 Have fun (optional) Watch a video about the Lion King if there is still some time left, calling on the students to protect wildlife.
