Preview the definition of body language.

Step 1 Lead-in（导入）

Task 1: Sing the short songs “If you are happy”

and ask the students to follow teacher to make some gestures while singing. After that, ask Ss a question: “just now, What kind of ways did we use to show our happiness? ”

Finally, ask a question: “what’s the purpose of body language?”

Purpose: To activate the class atmosphere

Task 2:

The teacher do some kinds of gestures and the Ss say out what their meanings are. Tell the students the same gesture may convey different meanings in different countries. Purpose: To tell Ss the same gesture may convey different meanings in different countries and lead in the next teaching step.

Step 2 skimming（略读）

Task 1:

Ss look at the title as well we the picture while listening to the tape. Ask the Ss to predict what the passage will talk about. After teacher explaining the title to the ss, ask the ss to find the two mistakes by filling in the blanks. Check answers with the ss. Ask two pairs of students ask the situation in front of the classroom. Purpose: To help the ss make sense of the title and train the ss’ ability of catching the detailed information.

Task 2:

Read the passage quickly, ask the ss match the main idea for each part. Purpose: To train the ss’ ability of summarizing the main idea.

Step 3 scanning（细读）

In this procedure, according to the main idea of each part, they will be dealt with one by one.

Task 1:

As to part 1, three questions will be answered: Q1: Who will“I”meet ? Q2: Where will“I meet them?

Q3: After meeting, where will“I”take them to?

Purpose: To have the ss know the background information under which the story take place

Task 2:

As to part 2, the chart will be filled in. Ask the ss read the passage carefully and find out how many foreigners are described and what their body language are. Purpose: To train the ss ability of finding out the detailed information.

Task 3:

As to part 3, some statements are presented. Ask the ss to judge them whether they are True or False. Purpose: To enhance the ss’ comprehending ability of this reading passage.

Task 4:

As to part 4, which is the concluding part of this text, the teacher help the ss make a conclusion of the body language. Purpose: To have the ss improve their ability of summarizing and to cultivate their respect for other cultures.

Step 4 Consolidation（巩固）

This step is to consolidate the ss’ comprehending of this reading passage. The teacher will design four superclicks, behind which there are some surprises. Ask four ss choose one by one, and complete the tasks. Purpose: To consolidate the ss’ comprehending of this reading passage

In the whole teaching procedure, the class will be divided into two groups: B & G. If one student answer a question correctly, get one point. Finally, tell out who is the winner. Purpose: To make the ss be more invovled

in the class by competition.
