Teaching objectives:

1. Students can understand the story and the new words “cavemen, raw meat, human, whale, already, earth, bright, future, heal,world” with the help of pictures and teacher; 2. Students can use reading strategies to read the story properly; 3. Students can use “Before …”, “Now …”, “In the future …” to express changes and have awareness of protecting the nature. Key points: Students can use reading strategies to understand the story and communicate their thoughts about “Make a better place”.

Difficult points: Students can express their thoughts properly and correctly.

Why is she so sad? T: We should heal the world and make it a better place. Today we’re going to read a story. The title is “Make it a better place!”

II.Presentation & Practice 1. The whole story (1) Watch and answer: What does the story talk about? (2)Learn the new word “whale”.

(3) Sum up the content of the story. It has three parts. (change of cooking, change of the earth,

change of whales) 2. Learn Part One (1) Read and answer two questions. Q1: Who didn’t cook food? Q2; Who will cook food in 2050? (2) Learn the new words “cavemen” & “raw meat”

(3) Discuss: Cavemen didn’t cook food. Do you think it’s good or bad? 3. Learn Part Two

(1) Read and tell the changes of the earth. (2) Discuss: What should we do to help the birds? 4. Learn Part Three (1)Read and learn the new words “human” & “already” & “bright”

(2) Answer the questions: Are there many whales on the earth now? Why? (3) Discuss: What should we change? 5. Read and summary the whole story. (1)Listen and pay attention to the pronunciation and intonation; (2) Choose one part to read to your deskmate; (3) Summary.

III.Consolidation 1. Talk about more changes; 2. Pair work: make a poster.

IV. Homework 1. Listen and read the story; 2. Make your poster more beautiful and share it with your friends.
