Using Language Ⅱ

Analysis of teaching material:

This lesson is designed to focus on improving students’

listening, speaking and writing. Students are going to listen to a funny story about jam, then they are required to answer some questions according to the tape. Next, every student is

asked to think of and write down a funny English or Chinese story.

Teaching aims (knowledge aim, ability aim and emotional aim) Knowledge aim: Students can understand the new vocabulary and review the grammar of unit 3. The new vocabulary includes some words and related phrases--mess, in a mess, react, react to, porridge and drunk. Grammar is about the function and usage of “doing”.

Ability aim: Students can improve their skills of listening, speaking and writing. Emotional aim: Students can learn how to work with their partners and improve their cooperative capacity.

Analysis of students: The integrated English level of students is not high. So I’d encourage them more in class and help students’ understand the listening materials.

Teaching method: I adopt communicative language teaching method. In class-teaching, students can learn and improve their English using English to communicate with their partners.

Teaching procedures: Step one: leading-in.

The purpose of lead-in is to attract the students’ attention in my lesson, so, I may

ask students’ some questions about jam at the beginning of the class and make sure that students’ can study in a relaxing classroom atmosphere. Step two: Listen to Part 1 and write down the main idea. Step three: Listen to Part 1 again and answer the following questions. Step four: Listen to Part 2 to put the sentences in order. Step five: Listen to Part 2 again and fill in the blanks. Step six: Every student thinks of a funny English or Chinese story and tells it to partner. While telling story, every student can use facial expressions and some acting to help make the story funny. Step seven: Students write down their stories.

Summary: At the end of the class, I summarize and emphasize important points: vocabulary and some listening skills.

Homework: Students are required to finish some work in their exercise books.
