Unit 4 Then and now (Part C Story time) Part 1 Analysis of the teaching material This period is from Unit4 PEP English Book, Ss are expected to master the main idea of Part C Story time and to use the sentence patterns (“There was/were…”

“There is/are …now.”

“There will be…”) to describe something in the past, now and in the future. The teaching material is a small story about Zoom and Zip are reading a magazine. The content about the magazine is about the changes in food, environment and whales. Therefore, it is in the important position of this unit. If Ss can master it well, it will be benefit for them to review the sentence patterns of this unit. Part 2 Analysis of the students Most of the Grade 6 students had learned English for about four years. They are curious about new things and have a strong desire to learn better. I’ll design some interesting games to make them join in and learn English. Their English levels are different from each other. They need teachers’ help and encouragement in their further study. Part3 Teaching aims 1. Knowledge objects (1) By the ned of the lesson,Ss will be able to know the meaning of Part C. (2) By the ned of the lesson,Ss will be able to read out the sentences of Part C. (3)By the ned of the lesson, Ss will be able to Master the way to express things happened in the past , now and in the future. 1

2. Ability objects (1) To train Ss’ abilities of listening and speaking; (2) To train Ss’ ability of working in groups. 3. Moral objects (1)Cultivate Ss’ consciousness of good cooperation and proper competition. (2)Ss get to know that life is what you make it and they should work hard for a good future.

Part 4 Important and difficult points The important points: To master the Usage of expressions for things in the past, now and future. The difficult points: To create and perform the dialogue about the ability. Part 5 Teaching methods Pictures, words, sentence cards , body language, a tape recorder and multi-media computer . The Task-based teaching method, Communicative teaching method and Group cooperation teaching method. Part 6 Teaching procedures Step 1 Pre-Reading 2

The teacher firstly plays an English Song called “Changes in me”.

Ss listen to the song and learn to sing it. After that, the teacher will ask Ss three questions about the song. 1.What’s this song about? It’s about Mike’s changes. 2. What are the Changes in Mike now? He is taller,bigger,earlier, more active now. 3. What are your changes? Taller, heavier, thinner, bigger, more active

In the end, the teacher says ”Well, there are many changes in Mike, in you, now , let’s see what are the changes in the story.”

(Design purpose: To attract the Ss’ attention and conduct the atmosphere of English learning. And get them ready for the next step. ) Step 2 While-Reading 1)

Scanning.The teacher plays the flash of Story time, Ask the Ss to watch the flash and discuss the main idea of the story in groups. Then the teacher asks some Ss to stand up and speak out the meaning of the story. (The video is about: Zoom and zip are reading a magazine, the content are: A: changes in food B: changes in earth C: changes in whales) 3

Skimming.The teacher plays the flash for a second time, Ss listen and read carefully then find the answers for some questions. Before they read,the teacher shows the new words in this story: cavemen:穴居人raw meat:生肉house robot:家庭机器人

(Design purposes: to help Ss master the meanings of the story.) Step 3 After reading (1)

Group work. Ss read in groups , three Ss form a group, one read the thing in the past, one read the thing now, the last one read the thing in the future. Then the teacher asks some groups to come to the front to perform. (Design purpose: Ss need to practice the new words and sentence patterns in different ways. It will be much easier and clear for Ss to accept the new language points. Proper practice is benefit for consolidation.) (2)

Part 8 Teaching reflection Ss’ reading skills are important in primary school. And they are curious and interested in new and funny things. So the teacher should design more interesting games , activities to help to arouse Ss’ interest to learn English.
