Information of red-crowned cranes Red-crowned cranes are long-legged and long-necked birds living in wetlands. Some species and populations of cranes migrate over long distances every year. They eat a range of items from small shrimps, fish, and some insects to plants. Recent years, most species of cranes have been affected by human activities. The wetlands have been destroyed by farming. The river has been seriously polluted that little food is left for them. To preserve these lovely birds, our nation has set up several reserves, like Zha Long Nature Reserve in Hei Longjiang Province and Jiangsu Yencheng Wetland National Nature Reserve. Xu Xiujuan was a primary keeper in Zha Long Nature Reserve. In1987, her 23rd year, she died because of searching for an injured crane. 27 years later, Xu Jianfeng, Xu Xiujuan's brother, died on the road of taking care of little cranes. Now, Xu Zhuo, Xu Jianfeng's daughter, walks her family's path to nurture the little creatures in her father and aunt's workplace. She also wants to devote herself to preserving these red-crowned cranes.
