StepI: What is subject（主语）?

主语从句的语序是

that引导主语从句时，在句中具有“两不”原则：

一、不作句子成分；

二、不能省略。

如果用it作形式主语，而把主语从句放在句末时，that可以省略。

而what引导的从句则恰恰相反，what在从句中的作用为：

一、作句子成分；

二、除了起到引导从句的作用外还要承担具体的意义。

用what 或that 填空

1.Whether引导主语从句位于句首时，不可用if替换。

2.If引导主语从句时，要用it作形式主语，将if引导的主语从句后置，此时whether可与if替换。

According to a theory, the universe began with a “Big Bang”. What the “Big Bang” resulted in was that the earth became a cloud of dust. The earth exploded loudly with fire and rock. What is more important is that as the earth cooled down, water began to appear on its surface. That the first plants appeared in water encouraged the development of early fish. Later , when the plants grew into forests, reptile appeared. However, 65 million years ago, the age of dinosaurs ended. Why they suddenly disappeared still remains a mystery. About 2.6 million years ago, some clever animals appeared and spread all over the earth. It is widely accepted that human is the most important animals on the planet.
