them in high spirits.

Encourage the students to talk about some animals in Australia. Teacher can show them some vivid pictures.

about these places. (Through these activities, the students may have a better understanding about the location and features of Australia, which may be very helpful for them to understand the text. )

Students are asked to read the title and subtitles of the text and match each part with a proper description.(By doing this, the students can learn to grasp the key words and then get the main idea and the structure of the whole text.) StepⅢ

Skimming and Scanning reading

Skimming the five short passages and find the

answers to the questions in Exercise 1, Comprehending part. (P.24)

Now read the five texts again more carefully and fill in the form with the information about Australia in the texts.

Ask the students to read the first part carefully, noting that they should try to remember as much information as they can. Then the students have to listen to this part again and then try to finish the excises without referring to the text. (In this way , the students may be stimulated to remember as much information as they can .) StepⅣ

Discussion (Phrases & Expressions)

The students are asked to discuss with their partners and try to choose five words or phrases to describe Australia.Find our the phrases

in the text. (This activity may reflect what they have learned and help them to form their own thoughts. ) StepⅤ

Group work Two or four students a group .They should make a dialogue . Suppose Mary is an exchange student from Australia, and her classmates are very interested in the country, so they ask Mary a lot of questions. (this activity not only help the students to remember the contents of the text but also train the students

speaking ability. It successfully make students to put what they have learned into practice. ) StepⅥ

Homework

Write a letter to your friend Lily.

1.Tell her something about Australia.
