Unit7 On the farm

The content of teaching:

3B Unit 7 On the farm --Story time. There are 4 lessons about this unit. This is the first lesson of this unit.

Teaching aims:

1.Students can understand, say and read these words: farm, they, those, apple, pear, cow, pig, welcome.

2.Students can understand, read and spell the phrase: on the farm.

3.Students can understand, say, read and use these sentence patterns: “ What are these/those? Are these/those...?”. They can also know how to answer these questions.

4.Students can understand this story preliminarily and use these new words and sentence patterns to talk with others.

Step 1: Lead-in(2min)

1. Introduce a new friend Ali Baba to students.

T: This is Ali-Baba and this is Ali Baba’s farm.

Do you know the meaning of this word “farm”?

3.Let’s sing a song Ali Baba’s farm together.

Students can know some new words, like cow and pig.

Step 2: Pre—reading(11min)

1.Let’s learn some new words about animals in the song Ali Baba’s farm.

①Show some pictures about cows. Let students know the differences between a cow and cows.

②Practice important sentence patterns: --What’s this? --It’s a cow.

--What are these? --They’re cows.

③Learning tip. only one: a cow

④Listen carefully

Students can find the sound is made by pigs. Then practise the important sentence patterns:

-- What’s that? -- It’s a pig.

--What’s those? -- They’re pigs.

Let students pay attention to this, these, that and those.

2.Do you know?

We have learnt new words: cows and pigs. Now listen carefully. --> chicken--chickens duck--ducks 3.Let’s chant.

First, the teacher gives an example. Then, students need to chant by themselves.

4.Learn some new words about fruit.

an apple--> apples a pear--> pears an orange--> oranges

Step3: While—reading (15min)

1. Show the picture of Liu Tao and Mike and let students guess: Where are they going?

2. Listen to the tape (the dialogue between Liu Tao and his grandpa). Students need to find the answer of this question: Whose farm?

3. Look at the pictures in students’ books and answer the question.

What do Mike and Liu Tao see?

4. Watch the cartoon and circle the answers.

① What animals can Mike see on the farm?

② What fruit can Mike see on the farm?

5. Read the text and find where this picture is.

① Answer the questions: What are these? Does Mike know?

② Practise the sentence patterns: --Are these...? -- Yes, they are. --No, they aren’t.

③ Read after the tape and pay attention to the pronunciation and intonation.

6. Read the text and find where this picture is.
