新课标提出：英语课程的学习，既是学生通过英语学习和实践活动，逐步掌握英语知识和技能，提高语言实际运用能力的过程；又是他们陶冶情操、拓展视野、丰富社会经历、开发思维能力和提高人文素养的过程。

A taste of English humor中的阅读材料涉及的内容是英语幽默。先展示一些幽默图片、幽默人物引入话题及幽默的不同类型。然后给出Charlie Chaplin的图片，

Teaching goals

1. Target language Help the students grasp some words, phrases and sentence pattern

verbal, nonverbal, slide, skin, cruel, particular, entertaining, throughout, homeless, worn-out, failure, overcome, difficulty, fortunate, chew, outstanding, Switzerland

Ability goals Enable the students to talk about some types of English humor and Chinese humor, then learn what humor means and what is nonverbal humor 3. Learning ability goals 1).Help the students to learn how to talk about some types of English and Chinese humor, and then find their differences. 2).help the students learn how to describe what nonverbal humor is by Charlie Chaplin’s career. 4. Emotional goals Let the students listen and read the jokes, so that they can realize that humor is to let people to be optimistic about everything around. 5. Teaching Important & Difficult Point

Learn how to divide the text into several parts according to the meaning of the passage 6. Teaching methods

Reading The purpose of this reading is to introduce nonverbal humor. This reading material takes Charlie Chaplin for example. It tells us what nonverbal humor means; what is Charlie Chaplin’s style of acting; how he made a sad situation entertaining and so on. Task 1.
