Topic: American standard English and dialects

1.Rationales(教学原理)

The present lesseon is guided by the Consciouseness-Raising task,, short for CR, on the basis of which students are required to read a given text and then mainly focus on the meanings of the text, but incidentally the learners’ attentions will be spontaneously drawn on the forms of the target language items. Some skills will be used, such as repetition, clarification, recast and metal-language analysis to catch learners’ notice, with the purpose of contributing the acquisition of the target language item.

2.Analysis of teaching background

a. Analysis of contents For this lesson, the most important thing is to enable students to search for the information which will be used in the following tasks, such as speaking part and to know the characteristics of how to make a speech.

b. Analysis of students：

The class to be given the required lesson is class 5, the English level of which should be similar to the two classes which I give lessons. Most of them have certain ability to speak in English and read English texts in some way. However, much help should be given in order to scaffold their competence to be built up.

3.Analysis of Teaching Objectives

In this lesson, I will enable students to use the information in speaking part and the reading period, through talking freely with three questions, which are based on the their interests in English learning, and through reading a given

passage on the text book on page 9, with the result that students can make their own speech with the title of “ what is American English is like”

Sub-aims Skills Reading; the given passage from the textbook on page 8 is relatively simple covers the truth thatAmerica has American standard English and dialects, of which the historical and geogaraphical fators account for the emerging of dialects. Students are supposed to read the passage and search for the associative information which will be used in the eventual task later.

4.Anticipated Difficulties and Solutions

I am anticipated to dealing with the difficulties that students may fail to have a good mastery of language knowledge and learning to put the acquired information into use. So I will draw their notice on the forms of the target language items, use meta-language analysis method explain the language items’

features to raise their
