课时规范练(十七)

阅读理解语篇达标练——练速度(限时:28分钟) A Five universities in Beijing will take the lead in carrying out the central government's push to open-up gated communities to ease urban ills including traffic jam, local media reported. The five famous universities—Renmin University of China, University of Science Technology Beijing, Beijing Institute of Technology, China University of Political Science and Law, and Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics—have begun trialing the effort. All located in the capital's Haidian District, the universities have already repainted road lines to optimize the transport network, according to the report. Efforts include eliminating dead-end roads, making transit easier for through traffic and improving connections around the universities. The Communist Party of China Central Committee and the State Council, or the cabinet, issued a guideline for the city's development on Feb.21 requiring roads in new residential developments to be open to the public, becoming part of the urban traffic system. It also said older communities should gradually connect their internal roads to public streets. The policy became controversial because knocking down walls and opening gates might violate the country's property laws. The Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development later said the government would not take a one-size-fits-all approach to opening up gated communities to integrate them with the public road system. The ministry stressed that the legal rights of residents will be protected. In one effort in March, a road winding through Sanlihe of Xicheng District, where the Ministry of Finance and other governmental departments are located, was expanded from 5 meters to 18 meters wide to become a secondary access road. 答案:B B A three-day-week gets the best performance from workers aged over 40, a study has found. Researchers found the cognitive performance of middle-aged people improved as the working week increased up to 25 hours a week. However, when the week went over 25 hours, overall performance for the test subjects decreased as “fatigue and stress” took effect.

The report, which was published in the Melbourne Institute Worker Paper series, invited 3,000 men and 3,500 women in Australia to complete a series of cognitive tests while their work habits were analysed. It was found those working 25 hours a week performed best while those working 55 hours a week showed results worse than retired or unemployed participants. One of the three authors, Professor Colin McKenzie from Keio University told the Times:“Many countries are going to raise their retirement ages by delaying the age at which people are eligible to start receiving pension benefits. This means that more people continue to work in the later stages of their life.”

The degree of intellectual stimulation may depend on working hours. Work can be a double-edged sword, in that it can stimulate brain activity, but at the same time long working hours can cause fatigue and stress, which potentially damage cognitive functions. “We point out that differences in working hours are important for maintaining cognitive functioning in middle-aged and elderly adults. This means that, in middle and older age, working part-time could be effective in maintaining cognitive ability.”

答案:B D The Great Wall is disappearing, brick by brick, and Chinese authorities have had enough. A new campaign has been launched to protect the ancient fortification that snakes for 13,000 miles (21,000 kilometers) across northern China from criminal damage. Built in different stages from the third century B.C.to the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), the wall was built to defend an empire but parts of it are now crumbling. Bricks have been stolen to build houses, for agriculture or to sell as souvenirs to tourists—accelerating the natural erosion caused by wind, rain and sandstorms. The measures will include spots checks, regular inspections and a hotline to allow members of the public to report damage, official news agency Xinhua reported. The State Administration of Cultural Heritage (SACH) first outlined the new regulations earlier this year but the issue has been in the headlines after a video of a man kicking and destroying the wall went viral on Chinese social media last week. Many China visitors associate the Great Wall with an extensively restored stretch of Ming era wall at Badaling near Beijing, but this is far from typical of most of the structure. According to official statistics, around 30% of the Ming Dynasty section of the wall has already disappeared and less than 10% is considered well preserved. “The Great Wall is a vast heritage site-over 20,000 kilometers-hence increasing the difficulty in preservation and restoration,” Dong Yaohui, deputy director of the Great Wall of China Society, told CNN last year. A.Spots checks.

C.Financial punishment.

B.Regular inspections. D.Hot line. 解析:根据文章第五段可知,没有提到经济惩罚这一措施。

答案:C 14.When did SACH issue the new regulations? A.Earlier this year. B.As soon as the new regulations was outlined. C.The new regulations hasn't been issued. D.After a video went viral last week. 解析:根据第六段可知今年早些时候制订了新规,但直至上周一男子踢蹬、破坏长城的视频在社交媒体上疯狂传播后才发行。故答案选D。

答案:D 15.Which is right about the Great Wall? A.The Great Wall at Badaling is typical of most of the structure. B.30% of the Ming Dynasty is well preserved. C.Preservation and restoration of the Great Wall is not very difficult. D.Stealing bricks accelerated the reason of the damage.
