Learning about language The analysis of the teaching material We’ll focus on the new words ,expressions and sentences patterns in the parts Warming Up, Pre-reading, Reading, Reading and Comprehending. In order to make students understand these important points thoroughly , we can first get students to understand the meanings in the context, then give some explanations about them, and later offer some exercises to make students master their usages. Some words and expressions ,such as in common, begin as , be built as, etc. are very useful and important. So are the sentence patterns “As time went by , I was made smaller.”

“And my memory became so large that I couldn’t believe it.”, and so on. We ought to pay more attention to them and design special exercises. The Analysis of students Students in my class are not good at expressing themselves in English and they're too shy to express themselves though they've learned so many useful words and phrases. Their speaking ability is not as good as they're expected and they need to be encouraged to build up their confidence. flexible measures should be taken to arouse students' interest and curiosity. Meanwhile, students should be required to participate in the activities to consolidate what they've learned. Teaching Aims: 1.Students will be helped to grasp 6 words and 2 phrases in this period and they will be helped to express themselves by using what they've learned this period. 2.Students will be helped to learn the method of constructing knowledge trees through self-study and cooperative exploration. 3.Help build students' confidence to express themselves in English and encourage them to participate in the activity with a strong passion. Important and Difficult Points 1.Help students master the usage of the words " arise, simplify, common " and the phrases " so.. that , in

a way, begin as, be built as ”

2.Help students put the points into practice. 3.How to help students express themselves clearly and correctly in English.

Teaching Procedures:

StepⅠ

Warming up

Help students recall the important words and useful phrases that they met in the reading material by brainstorming. The teacher says the words and phrases in Chinese while Students are required to speak them out in English. StepⅡ Reading and finding

Get students to read through the content of the second period Unit3 in the Guided Learning Plan to underline all the words and expressions that are strange to them. After that ,have students read them aloud and copy them down in their notebook after class and try to learn them by heart. Step Ⅲ Practice

1.Students are asked to finish the exercises in the Guided Learning Plan individually , then swap their answers and make sure whether they are correct. 2.Go through the exercises with students on the screen and make sure they know what to do. then hold a

competition: Find the word and expression for each of the following meanings quickly. 3.Choose the words in their correct forms to complete the short passage. StepⅣ

Language points

Help students master the important words and phrases that are difficult to understand and help them understand the patterns:
