Task4: Summary. Yesterday, another student and I, representing (represent) our university’s student association, went to the Capital International Airport to meet this year’s international students. The first one who arrived was Mr. Garcia from Colombia. I introduced them to each other. Mr. Garcia approached(approach)Ms Smith by touching (touch) her shoulders and kissed her on both cheeks while she stepped back appearing (appear) surprised. Just then Mr.Cook from Canada reached out his hand to a smiling (smile) Japanese who bowed. So his nose touched Mr. Cook’s moving(move)hand ,and they both apologize. So you see, people from different cultures may not greet others in the same way. English people usually do not stand very close to others or touch strangers as people from Spain, Italy or South America do. Most people around the world now greet each other by shaking (shake) hands. People from Jordon stand quite close to other men and shake hands but only nod at women.
In general, studying international customs can
certainly help avoid difficulties in today’s world of cultural crossroads!
