Teaching aims: Knowledge aims: 1.Students read and understand the main idea of reading part.

2.Students learn some useful new words and expressions through reading.

Ability aims: 1.Students are able to grasp the gist of the reading part, develop their reading skills, such as skimming, scanning. 2.Students can use their own words to introduce Australia.

Emotional aims: 1.Students can explore the theme of the reading part. 2.Students will learn to know more about the culture of Australia..

Teaching key points: 1.Develop students’ reading skills by reading part. 2.Help students to learn more about Australia. Teaching difficulties: Enable students to use their own words to introduce Australia and enjoy the beauty of Australia. Teaching procedures: Step 1. Warming up Task 1. Show students some pictures of Canada, the UK and Australia.

①Let students guess which country it is. （设计意图：回顾已学的加拿大和英国两个国家，来引出一个新的国家--澳大利亚。）

②Show students a map of Australia and fill in the blanks. It is a country and also a continent.

It is surrounded by oceans. While many other countries are having winter, it is in summer. Task 2. Show students some pictures of some cities of Australia. ①Ask students some questions as follows: Have you ever been there? What places do you know in Australia? Look at the following pictures. Can you recognize these places? ②Let students put the names in the correct places on the map and match the names and pictures. （设计意图：通过熟悉的一些图片和地名来引起学生对单元主题的兴趣，而不熟悉的图片和地名能激发学生学习的动机。）

Task 3. Read text three and answer the following questions: ①What is the text about? ②How far is it from Perth to Sydney? ③What can you see from the two routes? (fill in the blanks)

Travel from Sydney to Perth: View Blue Mountains, plains of Nullarbor and a variety of wildlife.

Travel from Adelaide to Darwin: Observe the rolling hills, the rusty reds of Australia's centre and the tropical splendour of Darwin. Task 4. Read text four&five and answer the following questions: ①How many World Heritage Sites are there in Australia? What two of them are named in these texts? ②Why do most people choose not to climb Uluru? Step 3. Discussion Let students go through the five texts and discuss the following questions with partners. ①Why do you think people make Australia their home?
