Plan

Teaching aims:

1.Help students understand the nonverbal humor.

2.Have the students know Charlie Chaplin’s childhood, his famous character, his acting and his achievements.

3.Learn the Charlie Chaplin’s optimism and determination. Teaching important points:

1.Let students master the main idea of each paragraph.

2.Guide students to understand Charlie Chaplin’s success and his influence. Teaching difficult points:

1.Ask students to get the main idea by themselves and help them understand. 2.Ask students to analyze Charlie Chaplin’s character by the passage’s detail information. Teaching process Step 1: Lead-in (5 minutes) Activity 1: Show the two interesting pictures, and ask students thinks about the other forms which can make us laugh.

( To tell us the funny things exist in everywhere and activate the student’s knowledge about

different forms of humor. )

Activity 2: According students answer and show the two pictures:

Song Xiaobao and Yue yunpeng.

(To introduce the Verbal humor)

Activity 3: Ask students think about the humorous artist who act by silence, and then show the two pictures: Mr Bean and Charlie Chaplin.

(To introduce the Nonverbal humor)

Step 2: Prediction

(3 minutes)

Analyze the title and ask students to predict the content of this passage and write down their idea. (Help students learn and catch the main topic of the passage) Step 3: Fast reading:

(10 minutes) 1. Read the passage with the two tasks and check their prediction.

Task 1: Get the main idea of each paragraph.

Task 2: Get Charlie Chaplin’s basic information.

(To get the ability of catching the main idea and collecting simple information as soon as possible.) Step 4: Careful Reading:

(18 minutes) Para 1:

Ask students to read it carefully and finish the exercise.

2. Why Charlie Chaplin could make people laugh at that time?

( Help students analyze the world background and think about

Charlie’s charming acting .) Para 2 : Why did he be the most popular child actor?

( To guide the students to analyze Charlie’s family and his own effort to his acting’s influence) Para 3: Ask students to find Charlie’s charming character and match his consume.

（To show the little tramp’s typical appearance and make the students have an simple impression about the little tramp’s optimism and determination.）

Para 4:

Activity 1: Ask students reading carefully and get the background of the film. Then ask one student read and another act the section of Charlie eating his shoe.

Activity 2: Enjoying the section of his film.

(To compare their understandings to Charlie’s impressive nonverbal performance and then get the deep thought about Charlie’s optimism and determination.) Para 5: Ask students to find Charlie’s achievements and fill in the

blanks.

1. According to your understanding, please write a short passage

about Charlie Chaplin.

2. Please try to model Charlie’s acting and share with us next class.
