Step 1 Greetings Step 2 Words and expressions Task1. Play a brainstorming game: ask some students to speak out the words according to the Chinese meanings. Then do some small exercises. Purpose: Review the words and expressions and pay attention to the characteristics of some words as the students will be working with them later. Step 3 Reading comprehension In order to have the students understand the words and expressions better in context, I ask Ss to read the first passage in this unit and do a related exercise. Task 2 Fill in the blanks according to the passage. Yesterday, another student and I, (1) ________ (represent) our university’s student (2) ________(associate), went to the Capital International Airport to meet this year’s international students to Beijing University. Step 4 Practice and extended application Have Ss find and correct the mistakes in the text. Body language is sometimes more important than word. Your friends feel happily when you say “hello” and smiling. But not all the body language means same thing in different countries. In India nod head means not “Yes”,but “No”. In European countries,people kiss each other when they meet,for example in Russia and French. But in China,people doesn’t kiss each other. People from English-speaking countries don’t feel each other. Those which are seating in coffee shops talk in a certain distance. Step 5 Summary Today we have learnt something about body language. It is very important in our daily life, and it varies from different cultures. These actions are not good or bad. In general(总的来说), studying international customs can help us to avoid cultural mistakes. By doing these exercises, I hope all of you can learn a lot from this. Step 6 Homework 1. Find out more body languages in different countries. 2. Write

down five different kinds of body language used in our daily life. 3. Finish the related exercises that you have on your hands.
