Using language:Reading & Writing 一．教学目标

Knowledge aims:

1. After reading GLIMPSES OF AUSTRALIA, all of the students learn some information about Australia using reading skills skimming. 2. Most of the students learn to appreciate some good sentence structures about describing a country. 3. Most of the students learn to describe a country after doing the writing task. Ability aims:

1. Most of the students can use the reading skills skimming to understand the main idea of the passage, to grasp the parts of Australia mentioned in the text. 2. Most of the students can appreciate some good sentence structures about describing a country and develop their abilities to describe a country. 3. Students are trained to develop the ability of analyzing and solving the problem, and the critical thinking as well. Emotional aims:

1. Students learn some cultures about Australia. 2. Students know how to write their own country in English and love China more 二．学情分析

教材选取于人教版选修九第三单元，学生是高三理科生，该班学生的学习特点是善于阅读却不善于写作。《英语课程标准》倡导教师结合教学实际，灵活、有创造性地使用教材，积极开发和利用各种课程资源，使学生从不同渠道，以不同方式接触和学习英语。因此，以下是本课时的设计思路：1.紧扣教材内容，根据学生实际情况将reading 部分的

GLIMPSES OF AUSTRALIA 改编为读与写，让学生在读的输入中能输出写。2.适时适量扩充信息，拓展话题的深度和广度。例如加入描写人口和面积的句型；3.合理渗透任务型教学，提高学生的语言综合运用能力；4.有效利用多媒体手段，促进学生思维的发展。

三．重点难点

教学重点：1. Develop students’ reading and writing abilities.

2. To get all the students involved in class. 四．教学过程

Step I Warming up A guessing game: It is the only country that is also a continent. It is surrounded by the ocean. It is famous for these two things. (Picture: Sydney Opera House and kangaroo) can you guess which country it is? 学生回答：

Australia

Step II Reading 1. Ask students to read the text and then answer the question: Which parts of Australia are mentioned in the text? 每组回答一个方面。

2. Appreciation:

（1） It is the sixth largest country in the world and is in the smallest continent --

Oceania. 地点表达方式有 be located in/on… be situated in/on… lie in/on…

注意词组的润色 Australia is famous for its huge, open spaces, bright sunshine, enormous number of sheep and cattle and its unusual wildlife, which include kangaroos and koalas. 在此过程中，学生一起跟着思考和造句。

3. Translation

让学生用所学习的句型和短语翻译一段关于澳大利亚的中文为英文。（在此过程中每组学生抽一位同学来翻译一句。这段话对后面的写作做铺垫。）

澳大利亚位于最小的大洲——大洋洲，是世界第六大国家。

Step III Writing 1. How to describe a country? 2. Organization :介绍地理位置的说明文，它的写作顺序建议如下: 地面气城著(地名) 应介绍这个地方的地（地理位置）.面（面积，人口），气（气候状况），城（两个著名城市），著（与众不同之处）

写说明文,时态以现在时为主

地点表达的常用句型要记好。如：

1.地点状语+,+主句

/(历史) (分词结构做状语）

2.面积+人口

（with结构做定语）

3.气候特征（注意表示天气变化的形容词）

：
