Greetings:

Teacher: Good morning, boys and girls!

Students: Good morning, Miss Zhang! 2. Warming-up (2 minutes):

Teacher: Before we start our lesson today, let’s clap our hands, do the actions and chant together along with the video.

Are you going to run?

Are you going to swim?

Are you going to jump?

Are you going to win?

Teacher: Thank you, boys and girls! You’ve done a very good job! Sit down, please!

Presentation (20 minutes):

Teacher:

The weather is getting better and better these days. And it’s very suitable that we have a sports day. So we’re going to have a sports day this month.

(Show students a picture of a sports day and teach the phrase):

Teacher: And when are we going to have a sports day?

(Show students a picture of a calendar and teach the word):

(Students read after the teacher and read together by themselves.)

④ Show students four pictures of sports activities (run, jump high, skip and jump far)

Teacher: On sports day, we can do lots of sports. So, boys and girls, what are you going to do on sports day?

Teacher chooses a student and ask: What are you going to do on sports day, ……?

Student: I’m going to …… on sports day. (Give a sticker.)

Teacher chooses another student and ask:

What are you going to do on sports day, ……?

Student: I’m going to …… on sports day. (Give a sticker.)

(Replace the word “run”

with other words like jump and skip and help students practice the sentence pattern):

I’m going to run/ jump high/ skip/ jump far … on sports day.

⑤ Drill:

Teacher: Now, boys and girls, please tell your partner what you’re going to do on sports day. You have 30 seconds.

Teacher: OK, time is up. Who want to show yourselves?

(Pick 2 pairs to show themselves. Give students stickers.)

⑥ (Show students a picture of some boys running)

Teacher: Many of you are going to run on sports day. But how long are you going to run on sports day? One metre? Five metres? Or one hundred metres? (Students answer: 100米.)

Teach the new words: metre, hundred, run the 100 metres

(Touch the card and say the phrase loudly.)

I’m going to run the 100 metres on sports day.(Read after the teacher.)

Are you going to run the 100 metres on sports day?

(Help the student answer: Yes, I am. / No, I’m not.)

(Choose a student to answer the whole class’s question. If he or she can answer very well, give a sticker to his/ her group.)

Teacher:

Beside running the 100 metres on sports day, what can you do on sports day?

(Students look at the picture and might answer: jump high.)

Replace jump high with do the high jump and teach the phrase:

do the high jump (Read after the teacher.)

Teacher: Who is going to do the high jump on sports day?

(Have a student do the high jump. The higher he jumps, the louder others read. Give a sticker.)

Teacher:

OK, boys and girls, please stand up. Let’s do the high jump and say the sentence loudly.

I’m going to do the high jump on sports day.

(Students do the high jump and say the sentence loudly.)

Boys ask: Are you going to do the high jump on sports day?

Girls answer: Yes, I am. (Answer according to teacher’s gesture.)

⑧ (Show students a picture of a girl jumping far.)

Teacher:

Apart from running the 100 metres and doing the high jump, what else can you do on sports day?

(Students look at the picture and might answer: jump far.)

Replace jump far with do the long jump and teach the phrase:

do the long jump (Touch the card and say the phrase loudly.)

I’m going to do the long jump on sports day. (Read together.)

Play the game: Find the Card (5 minutes):

Have a student hide the card in one student’s desk and have another student find it. Other students help the one find the card by changing their voice.
